Edgar Allan Poe, said to haunt his own home in Baltimore, Maryland, together with the ghost of his wife, Virginia.

Haven't got any good ghost stories but Sunday's Supernatural looks scary!

eenybeeny · 06/06/2008 15:29

oooh I love good ghost stories. Will have to remember some and post when I get home from work tonight.

eenybeeny · 06/06/2008 15:29

expat have you been to the house? what are EAP and his DW supposed to be doing there?

ajandjjmum · 06/06/2008 15:33

I reckon Edgar Allan Poe was haunting himself whilst he was writing all that weird stuff!

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 16:16

they just sort of appear in the window and fade off, apparently.

there is a very rare instance, reported in Colorado, of a woman who did in fact haunt before she was actually dead.

i miss that show 'Afterlife'. that was ace!

OP posts:
cornsilk · 06/06/2008 16:18

But how can someone haunt before they are dead?

ShowOfHands · 06/06/2008 16:19

Supernatural's back on Sunday? Thank goodness for that.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 16:23

because the majority of hauntings are not really the person, but an imprint or impression of the person or a replay of what he/she did in a place or what happened to him/her there.

this woman had severe dementia, and all she was was gone already.

cornsilk · 06/06/2008 16:26

Can anyone see a ghost then? My dh is a real cynic. Would that make him less likely to see one?
Show of hands - I saw an ad for a 'special' edition of Supernaturalon Sunday! It looks like a cross between Blair Witch and Most Haunted. Dean was running out of a house screaming!

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 16:33

I think anyone can see a ghost.

I was a complete cynic when I first saw one and didn't believe it even was one until about a year later when the haunting was featured on a Discovery Channel show on hauntings.

OP posts:
cornsilk · 06/06/2008 16:38

What did you see? I love a good ghost story!

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 16:49

A man who had once been imprisoned as a Jacobite rebel in the place I visited and was executed within the grounds.

OP posts:
cornsilk · 06/06/2008 17:05

So was he in costume? Did you think he was an actor or something?

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 17:06

he was wearing a tartan, and the staff were, too, so i thought he was an employee.

I've seen a ghost. On more than one occassion actually. But I am a bit to tell the stories as they are um... I dont know. Just

eenybeeny · 07/06/2008 00:31

Oh my DS has seen a ghost! I can tell that story.

He is 22 months. We were pushing him in his buggy past our village library which is a very old building that used to be a quaker meeting house. There is a grass lawn in front with a bench. As we went past it (it was empty!!! the library was closed) he said "Hi Lady!" and waved! To the bench!! And he said it several times again. As we past it he said "Bye Lady"

He never just talks to no one so I figure it was a quaker lady waving to him! I told my Mum and she said "I bet that lady sits there every day and no one sees her and Alex saw her and probably made her so happy"

I like to think that!

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 00:32

What's wrong with your own stories, though, eeny.

We've shared a lot on here, including one that scared the FUCK out of me.

eenybeeny · 07/06/2008 00:39

ok well I didnt see that thread so will you tell the story again?

ok I will tell you! Its probably not that exciting. There are 2 stories and 2 different reasons I am embarrassed about them.

  1. I was very young. I cant remember exactly how old. My grandparents owned our family home which was a plantation house in former years. (this is why I dont tell this story I dont like the idea of people thinking my family were slave owners they were not) BUT at our family home there HAD been slaves ages ago. So I was upstairs and I saw a young black woman with a scarf on her head and a sort of plain dress and apron on carrying a tray down the hall! Totally freaked me out and I was very very scared for ages. But I must say I loved that house and miss it so much!!! The house was lovely. It had a great feeling to it in general.
  1. I was 19 and in a motel room with my then boyfriend. He was asleep and I was asleep and suddenly I opened my eyes because I had this sort of sick terror come over me and literally RIGHT in front of my face nose to nose with me was this old old woman. She stared me down for a few seconds then sort of sat back and looked at the wanker boyfriend and shook her head "no" and then vanished. I again totally freaked out. I didnt wake him up or anything but I sat in bed with my eyes frozen wide the rest of the night.

I dont like telling that story simply because he was such a wanker I try not to think of him.

I think the old woman was telling me in her special psychotic way that I was doing the wrong thing being with him. She scared the fucking shit out of me!

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 00:42

Creepy, eeny!

Oh, there are some GREAT ghost stories in this topic, not all in this thread.

But one poster currently lives in a home haunted by a wee boy.

And he's still there!

WonderingWhy · 07/06/2008 21:08

Sometimes I sort of wonder, iykwim...like a couple of weeks back, I was driving into a road, across a junction, and this guy was crossing into the road...he looked straight at me through the car windows, carried on walking as though he wasn't going to stop but I drove in front of him and then looked in the mirror to see him cross behind me...nothing there

I did wonder.
