Clearing a house of negative energy

Mavornia · 31/05/2008 15:04

I would really appreciate any thoughts you might on getting rid of negative energy in your home.

Some of my in-laws visit me frequently and one in particular is a very vindictive, bitter person who never has anything good to say about anyone and puts me down and seems to be angry with the world and his wife

I find it draining and after they leave I feel like there is bad energy in my home

any thoughts on a helpful prayer/cleansing practice/something to chant/something practical to place in my home to repel any bad thoughts?

many thanks

Have you considered not spending time with these people? That would be more effective anyway and why should you put up with them?

whomovedmychocolate · 31/05/2008 21:30

I would suggest a sharp stick, propelled through the letterbox, upon your MiL's approach myself

BlueDragonfly · 31/05/2008 21:36

if there is a fragrance that calms you, you could try having a candle/air freshener/incense stick with that fragrance in while the people are in your home.

lol, I'm afraid the main culprit is my mil so no chance of keeping her at arm's length...shall keep a stick nicely sharpened just in case though (the mere thought of it has cheered me no end!)

perhaps she will insult me so terribly one of these days that I can do massive flounce and tell her to sling her hook

My PIL tend to wreck the house. I always find going round the house and collecting up all the rubbish they've created and clearing the surfaces of clutter really helps. Also opening all the windows to get some fresh air.

You might think I'm nuts, but you could try clapping in all the corners of the room - someone I know feels this works.

Space clearing?

Mavornia · 01/06/2008 19:20

Thanks ladies, that's exactly what I was after - I just wanted to take some positive steps when they leave to restore my inner balance and bring back a happy atmosphere - love the idea of the prayer to let go of the person and my anger towards them. And having a sweep around the room to clear up any mess and a good old clap in the corners is worth a try too! xox

sophable might be able to help you
I think sage is important
and possibly goat sacrifice

I was going to suggest sage too.

I also visualise white light filling the room and pushing the bad energy out. Then I visualise a protective bubble around the whole house.

i know some one who has crystals hanging from their light, that has something to do with energy, but i am not sure exactly what.

also you are meant to sweep out bad energy with an old stlye broom, but i think that you are meant to say some kind of chnat too and i dont know what it is but maybe some one on here will?

Ritual sacrifice of the MIL?
Or possibly ritual ingestion of the fermented juice of the grape?

CountessDracula · 01/06/2008 22:32

oh good so goat sacrifice fine if that is what floats my boat

thanks, great ideas

justaboutconscious, I think you're right, that it's more about me than the house itself but I think some of these practices would help me feel that I'm doing something positive to feel better

bit of a daft question, but how do you burn sage? just set light to a few twigs and leg it round the house?!

funny enough, I'm in the Middle East and the last time went to a restaurant a new shop had opened next door and the owners were in the middle of slaughtering a cow in the street to bring good luck to the venture. And just today my in-laws sold some land and the buyer produced a sheep which was slaughtered at the gate while I hid behind a tree - maybe I should hijack the next slaughter...

You can buy sage incense sticks, or better still, smudge sticks (bigger and more effective).

If you want to make your own, bundle lots of sage leaves together and wrap with cotton thread, round and round so that the bundle is tight. Don't dry the leaves too much first or they will just crumble. End product should look something like this

Would recommend you try to buy though. Any sage is good, but White sage is the best and you are not likely to have that variety available.

Mavornia · 04/06/2008 10:04

Thanks, SaintGeorge, I'm travelling to the UK in a few weeks and I'll pick up the smudge sticks while I'm there

anything else you would recommend getting while I'm there or any books?

Ah now that depends on what you are after exactly .

Are we still talking cleansing the house or for other stuff?

If you want to email me any specific queries you are welcome.

'TBH I don't think it matters too much what ritual you use. It is mainly about cleansing YOU and helping YOU to feel better. The house is the symbolic space, you are the actual person in need.'

I couldn't agree more! YOU, the present occupier, are the strongest force in the home, if you want to be.

YOU have the power to change the energy of your home in all but the most egregious situations.
