Do you believe some people are genuinely psychic, and if so what are their actual abilities?

Has anyone ever met a genuine medium, or known anyone with genuine psychic powers? I find this really interesting. Is it just having very good people skills, like guessing things about people through their body language etc, or is it more?

i dont really believe in it tbh, if you go to see a fortune teller there are only so many things you want to know about - generally kids, health love and money, so its pretty easy for them to make quite general comments about these things and for you to think - oh thats just what i wanted to know!
as for those that speak to the dead - well youre not going to go and see one if you dont know anybody that has died are you? again they guess abit and the person getting the reading gives stuff away that they pick up on.

i believe it as my sis is pyschic and she has no reason to lie about it as she doesnt charge any one money.

she says sometimes she just has feeling about things i.e. not long ago she told my sis her dp was going to arrested no one believed but a couple of nights later dp rang my sis to say that he was locked up for the night as he had been caught peeing up a police station wall, he had never been arrested in his life and is generally quite shy and quiet

sometimes she can feel the presence of spirits and get messages from them she says its a but like hearing voices apart from you dont actually hear anything you just know what they want to say

sometimes she has really vivid dreams. she reads jewellery and gets messages/feelings for the person by holding the jewellery and concentrating most of these ppl are my mums workmates who she has never met so it cant just be people skills

Many years ago some friends and I used to go the the psychic centre in Glasgow for a laugh..and yes 99% of the so called psychics were simply entertaining and didnt give either my friends or myself any reason to believe they could "see" anything more than we could have guessed at ourselves; however the was one man there, a spiritualist minister, who gave a demonstration and who was frighteningly accurate about my family history and circumstances at the time...he gave lots of details no one knew about or could possibly have guessed at and to tell the truth scared the living daylights out of me....it forced me to believe that he at least could be genuine.

They are entertainers. Very good at inspired guesswork and asking leading questions. James Randi, Derren Brown et al have shown how it can be done with the knowledge and practice.

Don't believe for a minute that there is anything supernatural going on - why should I, when it can all be explained without recourse to such things? Occam's Razor.

yes I have.... I am also at the early stages of developing my psychic skills. I have experienced many things since a child & through out my life! I've known when certain things are are going to happen & they have. I also sense spirits around me & like micci25's sister, they tell me things... I do not hear voices in my ear..(although some mediums do) but I do get given messages...its like thoughts being put in to your head! I dont expect sceptics to believe a word I am saying but I know that it is real... I have had readings from many psychis, mediums, clairvoyants etc... a few havent been any good & I assume a hoax... but I have 2 psychic/mediums who has helped me a great deal... & there is no way that they could have know the things that they knew... If anyone is considering going to see a psychic always go to someone whom someone has recommended... Apparently(from what I have been told by my reacher) everyone is psychic, you just need to knowe how to develope........

And I would be extremely ooncerned about anyone who told me they were hearing voices.

there will always be people who believe nad those that don't. the latter category will include those who have had bad experiences with one "psychic" and refuse to see naother and those that refuse to see one at all and tar each and every psychic witht the same brush as those that call themselves "psychic" instead of charlatan. to complicate matters even further, there are those who do have psychic abilities but use them fraudlently for their own ends; one bad apple will spoil the barrel so to speak.

Oh, I'm fully convinced some people quite sincerely think they are psychic. Hell, a former friend of mine thought she could talk to the souls of photocopiers. But I've no reason to believe that they're anything but deluded. And in the case of the voice-hearers, possibly rather ill.

have you ever considered that it is a matter of personal choice in what people believe?

i was able to tell my former rl friend specific information about her school life and what her friend who had died was like whne he was alive, i had no way of knowing this info - i had never known her before i started working in the same shop having previously moved counties.

Do I believe in psychic's? - I have been told things by them that are so accurate it's uncanny, however the jury is still out.

Do I believe in intuition? - I most certainly do. IMO a very much underated sense that many of us have.

Yes, I do believe some people genuinely are, but it's a matter of degree.

A true medium is very, very, very rare, however.

I don't get your point, that's all. Are you saying that some people choose to believe in psychics and others don't? Well, obviously. That's self-evident. But what does pointing that out prove?

yes i was just going to add about intuition..
i always get certain numbers and dates in my head when things will happen, and i always seem to be right. Sometimes it freaks me out.

I am open to persuasion but have experienced nothing to make me believe that true psychics exist.

Yes.

Agree that there are different variations on HOW psychic and what their abilities are.

For myself, I can feel when Bluedragonfly is distressed.

I have never met her in rl.

I tend to take the approach that "if it can be explained by phenomena within our knowledge, then it probably is caused by phenomena within our knowledge." Did nobody see that episode of Derren Brown with the "psychic readings" that were all the same?

Flame, definatly does have a 'connection'. For example; today she randomly texted me with "big deep breaths" - i was in a complete and utter strop!!

She 'knows' when i am lost in the darkness, she knows when i am uber happy. I have never met her and its something that has always been there but has got stronger the more i have got to know her (i occasionally get it back but thats rare!) I have never spoken to her anywhere other than online either.

I don't know what you would call it but it seems to fit with what you are asking.

I think there are definitely degrees of psychic ability, though.

My cousin's married to an identical twin and these brothers are skeptics, one is a scientist and the other a physician.

They're also die-hard Lutherans who don't suffer fools gladly.

Nonetheless, all day one day, my cuz's husband, Bryant, felt pain in one of his arms.

It grew stronger and more accute and specific as the morning went on and, around lunch, he called my cuz and said, 'My brother was in a car accident on the way to work this morning. His left arm is in a bad way and he's having surgery.'

He managed to get hold of his brother's wife in another state and it was true.

They'll have headaches at the same time, and even teh same dreams from time to time on the same nights.
