Come to believe?

I posted this on another thread but I realised I should start a new one.

How does a person find a faith?

How does one come to believe in God? If a person desperately wants to have a faith but has been raised as an atheist by atheists how are they supposed to do this?

Attending church and fervently praying for God to help hasn't helped.

How do you come to believe/ trust in other things in your life, op?

The reason I ask this is it might give some insight as to what up you might find helpful in coming to faith.

One thing you could do is study Jesus and make a mental note of all of the things He said and did which you agree with.

@banjaxedbanshee I read your comment on another thread and I'm glad you posted about this.

I think what @eyestosee said is very helpful. What I would add (and this is from my own heart, don't expect anyone else to espouse it) is this; God already loves you, whether you believe or not. You are as valuable to Him as any saint, because you are His child. What you believe or don't, or what your parents believed or didn't, is immaterial in the face of this overwhelming love, which is beyond imagination.

I think this helps the most. Read the gospels as if Jesus is speaking to you, or like you're there in the crowd listening. It sounds crazy to people who don't believe but I had such a profound experience of love reading it like that. I think you have to access a different side to yourself that knows how to discern and trust the presence of God. It's really hard to describe/explain but I think you will find it's already there quietly within you.

@eyestosee I've had a long life and have learned to trust based on experience I suppose.

I know some of the teachings of Christ through having gone to various churches (despite my upbringing I've always loved churches) but I'll make an effort to read more.

@Uricon2 thank you. I have more years behind me than ahead of me now and I would be grateful to find solace in feeling the love of God. I may be too late although this is something I've tried to feel at various times throughout my life.

@1WanderingWomble I will try that. I'm glad to hear it worked for you.

@banjaxedbanshee reading more is a great move. 👍 Regarding experience and trust maybe thinking about emulating what Jesus advocates and how it makes you feel might help.
