If someone claimed to be the Son of God today…

If someone claimed today all the things that Jesus did/said, would you believe them?

Curious about how people would respond in today’s world.

Those who have accepted Jesus as their Saviour will be saved. Those who have not, will not. Believing that God exists isn't enough to save someone, that's the bottom line.

Saviour as to what tho? I don't understand? It all sounds a bit vague.

So if you accept you are a sinner and want to repent, and believe that Jesus died for your sins on the Cross, then you will be saved from eternal death and given life via the blood of Jesus shed for you. To be saved means an eternity with God in his Kingdom on the new Earth.

His children will, by that time, be with Him accompanying Him for the last part of His return.
The terrified ones will be those who aren’t His children- the ones who rejected Him, choosing instead to live in rebellion to Him and realise that they are going to be held accountable.

Blimey, so this god is a “believe in me or else!!”, kind of father? Looks like I’ll be going to hell then.

So if you have lived a good life, not doing any harm are you still excluded?

Conversely, if you have been very bad and repented, youre ok?

AgileGreenSeal · 14/12/2024 13:37

How so?
Everyone will see Him return. Their own eyes will provide the evidence.

It will be so evident to all what is happening, people will be terrified, hide and mourn.

Why? They didn't last time.

SwedishEdith · 14/12/2024 14:51

If he/she exists, you don't have to "believe" in them, surely? So insecure 😀

It's simple: If you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour and repent of your sins, and therefore are reconciled with God, you will be saved.

None of us, repeat NONE, have lived perfectly and sinlessly. God will only accept perfection.

If you are someone who has been 'very bad' and yet you have sincerely repented, you will be saved.

mumda · 14/12/2024 14:53

I knew someone who did claim that he was the second coming.
When he was off his meds he set fire to his 6th floor flat.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/12/2024 14:50

Because the first time Jesus came, he came meekly into the world. Next time he will come as a righteous Judge and all will see him.

Is this some kind of weird projection?. I categorically did not use the term dumb, when you said “not all are as dumb as you seem to think.” And I didn’t call anyone ignorant, for what ever belief they may hold. Believe what you want, but stop putting words into people’s mouths.

I'll rephrase along the lines if what you've said so

Here's what you said

" this way, faith in a said religion, is not an informed choice, you just find your self in it, and because it’s never usually questioned, you believe what whatever others tell you is the truth, and most people just accept that, without really thinking about"

So, perhaps of me using the words that people of faith are dumb or ignorant, they just go along with their faith because they don't question and they don't think.

We people of faith are unable to think for ourselves, according to you.

What are you doing here? You're usually shouting in the shopping centre on a Saturday afternoon... 🤨

So what about people who have never heard of Jesus, or just don’t want to believe in him, and they have their own beliefs, and are perfectly good and kind human beings, who help others and always try to do the right thing - are they going to helll? And what about all those evil people, who have done terrible things to other people and are just awful human beings in general. If people like that accept Jesus Christ as their saviour, etc etc, will they secure a place in heaven with your god?

WetBandits · 14/12/2024 15:00

AgileGreenSeal · 14/12/2024 13:42

agreed.
However God is there.

If that’s what you’d like to believe, that’s fine, but I shan’t take your word for it.

I know it's hard to accept what I am saying, honestly I have struggled with that, too. 'But surely God would save wonderful people who do lots of good works' - however we are saved NOT by works but by faith alone. There will be people at the judgement who say 'but look at all the good things I did!' and Jesus will say 'I never knew you'.

I do think that very few really terrible killers have truly repented. Pretty sure some have lied. God will know and will judge accordingly. I'm glad He is judging and not me or any human!

I'm curious SleepyHippy, why have millions of people over thousands of years just gone along with their faith without thinking, according to you?

Are they incapable of thinking, too lazy to think, afraid to think? Were the vast majority of people one or several of these things or something else. I'm genuinely curious.

No, none of us have lived sinlessly and none of us would go to Heaven, but for the fact that God graciously sent his son Jesus to shed his blood for us, to wipe out all our sins once and for all. But you have to accept Jesus, by repenting of your sins and taking up your own 'cross' and following him. You must have faith in Him, otherwise you remain in sin, and therefore will earn eternal death eventually.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Accept Jesus and accept eternal life and all that goes with it, or have nothing and die. Of course it's not easy to be a Christian, especially in some countries, but the reward of eternal life makes any suffering here small by comparison.

I was specifically saying that the majority of religious people came about that religion by being born into it, Following on from this I made the specific point of pointing out that indeed a new born baby, a very small child, will not have any choice in that matter, and. that it didn’t make an informed decision to become a Christian at birth, in the same way babies are not able to consent to being baptised, and therefore given to this god - because their families make that decision for them. And following on from this, they will just grow up in the faith of his/her family/community/culture. What they do as adults with that faith, is a different matter. But you must also know that in some religious communities it’s very hard to leave their faith, their religion, without serious repercussions. But that is another topic.

Now please, go and start you non fight with someone else.

You've chosen to come on to a small corner of MN specifically titled Philosophy & Religion - and you're surprised to hear people on there discussing and sharing their beliefs and thoughts relating to religion?!

'Eternal death'? So, just death? Like what most people already think happens when you die? Or do you believe in the seemingly rather old-fashioned idea hellfire and damnation (which a lot of Christians seem to have conveniently edged away from)?

People in psychosis, especially men, do sometimes claim to be the son of God or delivering a prophecy etc etc. They're detained in a secure ward so make of thar what you will

When I was last sectioned there was a massive argument between 3 children of god! 2 men and 1 woman. I was smug as I was the next Buddha, so I let them crack on whilst nodding serenely.
