Interesting in what leaving front door open means/symbolises

We have neighbours who we don't know very well who DH suspects are Jehovah's Witnesses. We noticed they leave their front door open all day when home until sunset. I am really intrigued if this is a religious thing and what it means or why it is done? They seem very nice but I am an introverted person and not the type to just go up to someone and ask why, but I am so intrigued by this (or perhaps just nosey!)

I'm.a Christian and I leave my front door open to air the vestibule, otherwise it smells musty!

I'm an occasional attender at Quaker meetings and I leave my front door open to cool the house and rid the hall of the smell of my sweaty trainers.

Around here it means you want to be robbed 🤷‍♀️

I leave my front door open quite often, house gets really hot and having it open helps cool it down. No religion here.

The inner door is locked. But come and have a coffee!

If your vestibule smells musty that suggests you have a damp problem. You might want to check any nearby downpipes and drains.

We covered this in a Prison Education class, although I think that it was really focused on don't try and scale a leaky downpipe as you can lose your grip and injure youself.

Please don't scale our plastic downpipes. Injury is certain! Try next door- they still have their iron ones, albeit a bit rusty. :)

No damp, just an extremely well fitting, north facing front door, so a bit of circulating air is needed!

Haha thanks everyone, so it's probably just a preference rather than something religious. I think I assumed it was as it always gets shut at sunset which obviously differs throughout the year. I do worry sometimes that somebody could walk in off the street and rob them! You can literally see through into their living room with them sitting at the sofa with their feet up watching the TV etc.

Shutting at sunset is probably to stop insects attracted to light coming in.
Plus @BurglarAndSwag and cronies more active after dark.
