Strange Thing Happened

I've been down lately and I wouldn't do anything stupid but have rung the Samaritans and looked into counselling.

Yesterday evening was tough so I said a prayer. I don't believe in a particular God but felt like I was throwing out the need for some hope to the universe. I know that sounds ridiculous.

Today I feel so much better and calmer. Maybe it's just a coincidence? I don't know. Anyone had a similar experience? I'm not about to become religious or anything

Aw bless you. Well I'm Christian so I find comfort in prayer. I will say one for you! I hope things continue to improve.

Thank you

I see prayer as having a double action- speaking to the Almighty and speaking to my subconscious.

I benefit hugely from prayer, comforting myself and getting a deeper understanding of a situation and how I feel about it.

I'm agnostic but it took me a long time to understand that a large part of religion, faith, praying, is about this world, not the next (if there is one). It makes this life better, easier, and therefore it's purposeful even if it turns out to not be 'true'. Though if there is only this world, arguably the purpose in this world is what matters anyways.
If it works it works. I hope things start to get brighter for you.

I think I am agnostic too. Thanks

I am agnostic too and I would say you have experienced the power of radical acceptance and unconditional love. That sounds amazing and thank you for sharing.

I’m a Christian and I think it’s great that you’ve experienced this. You say you’re agnostic, do you have any friends/family with faith that you could discuss it with?

It doesn't sound ridiculous at all. Well done for reaching out. I wish you a peaceful day and I hope you continue to feel better. Take care of yourself.

Sorry to read you felt as you did and hope the feeling of calm continues.

Yes I can relate. I don't go to church, don't know what I think of things but in a moment of despair years ago said a prayer and felt immediate calm and peace. A lovely experience to be honest. Sometimes I say the odd prayer. I've had bad experiences at churches that's why I don't go. I hope you find some comfort in it and that things get better for you.
