The seven social sins are:

  1. ``Bioethical' violations such as birth control
  1. ``Morally dubious'' experiments such as stem cell research
  1. Drug abuse
  1. Polluting the environment
  1. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
  1. Excessive wealth
  1. Creating poverty

The original deadly sins:

  1. Pride
  1. Envy
  1. Gluttony
  1. Lust
  1. Anger
  1. Greed
  1. Sloth

relating to the first sin - as someone on another site asked - when will misogyny be named a deadly sin?

so drug abuse wasnt a sin before?
surely it could be argued as being part of almost all the others.
ruining the envirionent is part of gluttony surely

cornsilk · 01/04/2008 09:29

Excessive wealth! Pot calling kettle black there!

hellsbells76 · 01/04/2008 09:30

beat me to it cornsilk! so i'm assuming the vatican will be selling up all its assets to give to the poor in order to avoid eternal damnation then?

cornsilk · 01/04/2008 09:31

LOL!

Monkeytrousers · 01/04/2008 10:38

Hmm, I heard about this the other day.

Rofl @ cornsilk & hellsbells76!

Do 1 and 7 not cancel each other out in a way? By sticking to the no contraception teaching (which I cannot get my head around) surely some less well off families, if they got caught out in the family way, would unfortunately put themselves in the bracket of number seven?

hellsbells76 · 01/04/2008 12:53

i'd say 1 and 5 cancel each other out too. forcing people who can't afford it to have ginormous families doesn't do a lot to eliminate the rich/poor divide...

Monkeytrousers · 01/04/2008 13:04

Poor people generally have more, not less children too.

well quite. nice of them to highlight the inherent contradictions of that frankly barmy religion so explicitly though
(i am very lapsed...)
