Koran in Arabic

Hi, I hope someone can help. I would like to buy a Koran in Arabic for someone from North Africa but I’m worried about getting the wrong thing. Please can anyone advise which one to get? There seem to be different editions and I don’t know enough about it. Thank you!

Go to your local mosque they will be happy to help.

The Koran as far as I'm aware is quite sort of revered etc so I'm not sure if it will go down that well if you randomly buy it for someone or not if you're not Muslim

It has to be wrapped in cloth etc

And as you don't even know which one to get you might end up insulting that person

It's not like buying a bible in your local Waterstones

I’m aware of that, which is why I asked.

The reason I was going to buy one is because a homeless man I’ve met had his Koran taken when his camp was cleared. He’s not in a very good way so I thought giving him a new Koran might be a little thing I could do which might help him.

If it’s not the done thing then that’s fine, I wasn’t sure of the etiquette around it.

That's kind of you, OP. I hope you manage to get some advice from a local mosque. I'm sure the person it's intended for will appreciate it.

The mosque is a good idea, I’ll see where the nearest one to where he is. Thanks for the suggestion.

Op every Arabic Koran is the same there aren't different versions like there is the bible xx

DrJump · 22/01/2024 21:57

Ours aren't in cloth. The English ones are local one give out are just paper back. Check with the local.mosque or findan islamic book store near you.

Allthingspeaches · 22/01/2024 21:57

There are different versions/translations.

The Warsh Quran is used quite commonly in North Africa so I would go for that one.

RachelGreensHair · 22/01/2024 21:59

Where are you based OP? Can suggest where to go based on that.

Amsons specialises in Islamic items and if there isn't one near you then they have a website

OP Koran in Arabic isn’t always the same, the words are the same but there are different scripts which people from different parts of the world can’t read well. If you have a Google you may find which type you need for N Africa

I mean call it what you want. I'm just trying to help OP. In North Africa it's common to read the Warsh Quran. Other places read a Hafs Quran. Given that the man OP wants to buy from us from North Africa he may prefer a Warsh Quran.

FlowerBarrow · 22/01/2024 22:31

Clpsmum is wrong, the content is same but the script is significantly different

Christmasisover · 22/01/2024 22:38

@AnxiousPangolin Wow. That's such a lovely and thoughtful thing to do. I hope you are rewarded for your efforts ❤️

madderthanahatter · 04/02/2024 03:35

Such a lovely idea OP 💐. I know you have probably sorted the issue now but just want to say that nobody would have an issue with you buying it. They might be intrigued, but it really is as easy as going in and buying a book from Waterstones. The covering in cloth is purely a cultural issue, it is not a religious requirement. Broadly speaking people from SE Asia are more likely to do it. When you go into an Islamic bookshop they will not be covered, they will be on shelves like any other book.
