I've had contact from someone in their church - friend of a friend of a friend kind of thing - wanting to pray for me and tbh, it's felt off

Oh, they absolutely do. :( I got sucked into a pretty full-on and extreme church in my teens, and 30 years later I'm still trying to fix the damage it did.
