gift for (LDS) baptism

We've been invited to a friend's dd's baptism. They are members of the church of LDS and I understand there are lots of differences from mainstream Christianity. We are RC so a bit clueless on it.

I have seen a lovely little bracelet with a cross on that I'd like to get her. But I've never seen my friend wear a cross (usual for RC) so I'm hesitating. I want to avoid my usual choice of illustrated Bible stories/books because I know they have different scriptures/teaching.

I think they'd be embarrassed if I asked directly what she wanted so wondered if there are any LDS knowledgable MNers who could advise first?

Are you religious yourself?

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 01/01/2024 13:15

Not knowledgeable about the LDS but your idea sounds wonderful. If possible you could make the cross detachable so it’s their choice? You sound wonderfully considerate.

My mother is Mormon, she wouldn't wear a cross.

Libertyy · 01/01/2024 13:46

I’d say just get her a little outfit you know the parents would like

katseyes7 · 01/01/2024 13:50

My best friend's family are LDS. Crosses aren't appropriate.

A wooden noah's ark toy?

A silver item- a spoon or money box with some money in?
A Beatrix potter plate and mug set?

Thank you. Detachable charm is a good thought!

I tend to give lovely editions of classic novels for Christening gifts.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 01/01/2024 14:01

Maybe a beautiful version of the King James Bible- Mormons use this version and it will be read daily probably.

No cross as put above.

Worth mentioning that LDS children get baptised at 8 years old.

She will most likely get a grown up bible now from her Bishop. I would ask her parents tbh.
I have given CTR jewellery before ( its a LDS saying, choose the right ) but it depends how much you would like to spend.

Thank you but I don't think I'll buy anything specific because I'm not Mormon myself. I did wonder what CtR stood for though!

I would have thought any of these would be appropriate or a babies silver bangle bracelet.

caringcarer · 01/01/2024 16:42

Sorry just seen she is not a baby. A larger silver bangle maybe.

Well, if she’s not a baby, why not just ask her? Get her what she likes, not what people thinks would be nice to gift her
