Do you need God Parents

We started the process for getting DD christened pre-Covid, asked my sister & BIL & and a couple we are friends with to be his parents.

Forward to now... the women in the couple died quite suddenly earlier this year, I really can't bring myself to replace her with someone else.

My relationship with sister broke down during Covid, we've been getting on better but honestly I wouldn't want her to have a huge influence in raising my child, she also became very vocal about being against organised religion, I know spiritual guidance can come in different forms but is it appropriate? As for the BIL, he has made his distain for us very clear and rarely even acknowledges our existence. But how on earth do you "un-ask" someone?!

You do not need to.appoint God parents. In some churches everyone preset at the christening takes on the role.
Ask the minister who will perform the ceremony for advice.

In my church you do, yes. Could you ask the priest for advice?
