Expressing condolences to Muslim friend

In need of advice please…I support a Turkish lady with learning English and she and I have become good friends. She lost her Mum in the earthquake this week and I would like to send her a card and some flowers. I believe sending a card is acceptable but I’m not sure about flowers. Would appreciate any guidance please🙏

A donation in memory of her mum would be more appropriate than flowers is my understanding. The DEC website has links to a number of charities helping in the affected area.

Hi, yes that is fine and I’m sure she will appreciate the gesture. If you want to make it a bit more personal for her, as Muslims we are encouraged to do “on going” charity for the dead. Usually planting olive trees is a nice gift to give to someone who has lost a relative. Zaytoun offer this service and it allows you to print a certificate in the name of her mother and give to her. Either way it will be fine and I’m sure she’ll appreciate you just thinking of her

Flowers, a card and a donation towards the relief effort would be much appreciated xx

Thank you @SiennaSienna 🙏
We’ve sorted out some winter clothes too as our local Turkish restaurant chain is organising lorries to transport essentials.
