Can anyone suggest wedding hymns?

My friends (neither of them English) are getting married in a CofE church. They are not religious and don't know English hymns very well (and neither do their families...)
Can you think of any good hymns, with tunes that are used throughout Europe? My friend said she didn't want anything too heavy She's chosen 'morning is broken', so that kind of thing...

only amazing grace if you have a decent organist.......otherwise it could be like a funeral dirge (as my parents discovered when they got married )

We had Bind us together lord,played at our wedding and all our childrens baptisms lovely hymn about love and family.

I had Morning Has Broken, and For the Beauty of the Earth (though it was not to the traditional tunes -I knew a much nicer one which the organist finally found in a Canadian Sundayschool Hymn Book!).

there are lots of cracking German hymn tunes but many are 'heavy'...

We had "All things bright and beautiful" (lots of children at the wedding)
"Lord of all Hopefulness"
and
"Give me Joy in my heart"

Had brilliant organist so had

We had 'Give me joy in my Heart' and no-one sang apart from the priest. Hymns and weddings just don't go.

Mmm, the fact not many will sing is a worry. I'll just have to sing twice as loud - sadly for everyone else

The reception, at parents house, is really in the middle of nowhere, so they can't get to a registry office easily...

OOhh loads of people sang the hymns at our wedding it was lovely.

We had Lord of all Hopefullness because I love that hymn. Also had it at ds's baptism

Might be worth booking a singer/singers to do an anthem during the signing of the register and to bolster the hymns if the congregation aren't likely to know them well.

I had Guide me o though great Jehovah (sung to cwm Rhondda)

and Praise my soul, the King of Heaven.

Since we were in the Rhondda, and the chapel was full of my Non-conformist, Welsh relatives, we raised the roof!

Dh's family and our English friends were all somewhat stunned at our 'vigor'

If they want a tune well known by Europeans, "Glorious Things of Thee are Spoke" is sometimes sung to the tune of "Deutschland, Deutschland uber Alles" (it's Haydn).
