i haven't watched it all but she makes some good points.

i wouldn't say all muslims have the backward middle ages views she describes at all. but the 'Islamists' certainly do. they seem to be at the stage christianity was at the time of the crusades. perhaps the moderate element will help the religion to evolve and concentrate on the peaceful aspects we are always hearing about.

colditz · 02/02/2008 12:01

Gawd, she's a compelling speaker, isn't she!

ChaCha · 02/02/2008 12:24

Hi,

No, all Muslims do not have backward middle aged views she seems to be talking about extremists here. Is always the same extremist Islam that is portrayed in the media and the one that gets everyone talking.

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/02/2008 12:45

She has no idea what she is talking about. The basis of modern science stems from the works of many Arabic scholars - a fact that is frequently overlooked so the books that people read today can in all likelihood, trace their origins back to Arabic scholars (among others).

While Europe and other countries were in cities with no street light, raw sewage in the streets etc, the people of Andalucia enjoyed street lighting, water filtration systems and clean streets - backwards??

Also, Jewish people have killed to further their cause - the King David Hotel bombing was an attempt to force the British to allow more than the 10,000 Jewish people into Palestine than what was orginally agreed on. Also, Sharon had knowledge of what was going on in Sabra and Chatila and did nothing...

She really needs to read some books....she's not very educated imo

PussinJimmyChoos · 02/02/2008 12:45

meant to say people in Europe...

ChaCha · 02/02/2008 12:46

If anyone is really interested in this subject and has a few minutes time, please listen to Hamza Yusuf's (an American convert) talk entitled 'Islam and the West' - he says everything that i want to say. This is exactly what Islam is about....not the blowing up/killing of innocent people. You can find the talk here www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ttcA9Kto9M If my link doesn't work go to You Tube, type in Hamza Yusuf and the 'Islam and the West' talk is one of the first few. Sums it all up.

Islam in not the only religion that suffers from extremism.
