Muslim MNers - I have a (v quick) question!

It is this:

When you mention the Prophet Mohammed's name, is it always 'peace be upon him' or is it sometimes 'praise be upon him'?

I ask because I am proof-reading a book for a (non-Muslim, but very concerned to show respect to other people's beliefs) colleague and she has put 'praise be upon him', which I have never seen before.

Is this "wrong" in any sense or just a normal alternative?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

I have always said and always read 'peace be upon him' - sallalahu alayhi wa salam

HTH

I am not a Muslim but I work in a school 50% Muslim and I have seen PBUH used in books instead of the whole phrase.

Thanks ChaCha and Spudmasher.
Anyone else?

pbuh after is fine I think.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 31/01/2008 21:20

Trouble is if she puts 'pbuh' then many non-Muslims reading the book won't have any idea what she means.... so I think it has to be spelled out. If it is generally 'peace' I should probably suggest she changes it, but I don't want to get too picky if 'praise' is a normal alternative.

It is peace. Write it a couple of times then it's fine to do the PBUH.
