Does anyone know how to read omens?

I've looked online for forums about reading omens but couldn't find any so wondered if any wise spiritual MNers might help. Sceptics are welcome to join in and take the piss out of me but i would also really love some genuine comments from people who believe in or understand this stuff as I have no idea why that clear voice came into my head and said: These are omens, but I don't get that voice often (about once every ten years) so try and listen to it when it comes.

In the last week I have seen some strange things and a thought came into my head that they are omens. If I say what they are, could anyone interpret them or tell me where to go to find out more?

I was walking on the hill behind our house with a friend and came across the carcass of a young deer. It didn't smell at all. it was picked clean so you could see the ribs, but its legs were still covered in skin, its hooves still there. My friend walked straight past it but I saw it. I read online that time of day and weather matter. FWIW it was a bright, fresh warm day, like spring in autumn.

Then I was turning the corner from our street, on another bright sunny morning and saw the carcass of a fox lying on the grass verge. It was almost camoflaged by autumn leaves and long grass . Again no smell at all. Almost as if it were preserved. No flesh on it but the skin in tact.

Then I was walking home, turning the same corner, so had just passed the fox, which was still there, a day later, and over our house there was a perfect rainbow, like a child's drawing. It hooped our house, not the houses either side.

Any ideas?

Personally I think these sorts of things are best meditated on to find your own meaning. This is discursive meditation. Sit in a chair feet on floor and pick an element you feel important- concentrate just on that, what does it mean to you. Then the next element. Listen for that inner voice again

I don't necessarily see them as omens but they do serve to remind that death is a natural part of life and that a dead carcass still performs useful functions as food to other organisms and enrichment to the soil. The remains, in their preservation, still can hold a memory of what was there previously too. The rainbow is often taken as being symbolic of hope. 🙂

People often find death symbolic of new beginnings and a transition from what was there previously.

Yea the death. The spring/autumn suggests transition but meditate on it

Yes, it does seem like an omen. I have received and interpreted omens but in my case I'm a classical polytheist so that informs my understanding...as the other posters have mentioned you need to find the meaning for you. Do you practice divination: tarot cards, lots something to help bring out the meaning

Very belatedly - thank you for your replies. Not sure how I missed them.

I used to read Tarot. Not done it for ages. So to me, Death certainly signifies a new beginning. Instinctively I associate rainbows with protection. Not sure why, but the sight of a rainbow over our house felt very protective. Also saw many rainbows while on a work project recently.

I will now meditate as several of you suggested. It had never occurred ot me to do that. Just sit with the images and see what they mean to me.

@QueenHippolyta I'd be interested to know more about symbolism in classical polytheism.
