Hi there
I'm trying to rekindle my faith after many years of not believing. Its early days as I still find it hard to believe , but I reslly want to!!

I recently ( last night!) started listening to Premier Radio and it was a revelation! Just nice to be able to hear people talking about their faith and feeling I was actually finding out stuff without having to search online / go to church etc.

Basically, I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a magazine subscription? Or daily bible reading booklets, books, apps? Etc!

I just feel completely out of the loop really and find myself trying to believe, praying at night and then thinking it's all just make believe.

I think if I had a few resources by my side I've a better chance of believing!!

Thank you so much xx hope to hear from some of you soon xx

I suppose it depends on what your church background was and what you want now....
There are podcasts of all 'flavours' of Christianity; from the evangelical to the charismatic and everything in between.
The Church of England do an app called 'Time to pray' if you want to do morning or evening prayer, and there's quite a good app called 'Lectio 365' which takes you through a meditative bible reading every day as well.

The bookshop eden.co.uk has a good range of devotional books if you wanted to get into daily reading, but again, it depends on what your background is and what you're after really.

Hi @Catinabeanbag

Thank you so much! I've just downloaded them both now :)

I have been brought up going to Baptist church, then a quite evangelical organisation ( which put me off!)

Then now I guess I'm looking for church of England, quite traditional ( not so much pf the happy clappy stuff for me!)xxxx

Woman alive might suit you. If you can get to a Christian bookshop you could buy a single months copy and then see if you fancy a subscription.

TinyDancer275 · 20/06/2022 15:21

Thank you @UpdateStoleMyProfile . I've heard of that one and it looks good.

I'll try find a book shop near me xx

I like the Lyfe app from the Bible society.

Also these people are great if you have questions

@BlackbirdsSinging thank you 😊

I'll check the app and the link out.

It's funny, When I came away from my faith for years, I always thought no one believed anymore. But actually when you start looking, there's lots of people who do.
I'm just trying to get my head round how they believe ( if you get me!)

Xxx

Premier Christianity have their own magazine subscription if you're enjoying their radio broadcasts. I also enjoy their podcasts (namely Ask NT Wright Anything and Unbelievable?)

I also know of Christianity Today but I don't know that I've read it often enough to know of its "flavour". They also have podcasts so you could give those a look to check it out first?

TinyDancer275 · 01/07/2022 15:21

Hi @CremeEggsForBreakfast 😊
Thank you for that.

Yes I've now subscribed to the Premier magazine which is really good.

I will look onto the Christianity for today xxx thank you!

I read UCB Word For Today every morning. Great food for thought, and always gives me a feel good factor to start the day.

United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) have Bible notes. They also have an app UCB Player which has podcasts and live radio etc.

I've recently become a Central Member of Mothers Union (MU) (chose this membership as I'm interested in their project work and advocacy and don't have the time, as a busy working mum, to attend branch meetings and focus on local community outreach). They do fantastic work around social injustice, ending violence and poverty, work in prisons - the list goes on. As part of that membership I get their excellent Connected magazine (formerly Families First). Re-look at MU, you would be surprised!

TinyDancer275 · 21/07/2022 12:47

Hey all,
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
@SLMN is Mother's Union a Christian organisation then? I will have a look.now - thank you!!

Hi TinyDancer, this is from their website:
"Supporting families around the world.
We are an international Christian membership movement supporting families and communities in need of support in the UK and worldwide since 1876. Our members are active in 84 countries and work tirelessly to serve their communities whilst offering Christian care for families, regardless of faith or background.
Ending violence, ending poverty, ending injustice. We are a truly worldwide Christian movement."
Hope helps.

I know that your question is different, but I just had to respond to this comment.

You don't need to get your head around it. Anyone who "believes" all the time, every day, without a shred of doubt ever, is either lying or stupid! Faith and belief are two different things. You can believe something, believe it all the time, or change your "belief" if provided with better evidence or a different rationale. Faith goes beyond belief. It incorporates all those doubts and questionable logic. It continues despite the lack of evidence. Doubt isn't a weakness. It shows that you are thinking, you are challenging yourself, and you are coming to a deeper faith. In faith there are no absolutes - it is a personal relationship with God. The minute someone starts telling you that this brand of belief, or that kind of action is the only possible one, then you are discussing human (and usually man) made concepts. Faith is about you, not about others, about "churches", or about prescriptions. Enjoy the journey and embrace the doubt. It's good for you!
