I just found out that the priest who confirmed my son in 1992 was a paedophile priest and attacked another boy at that time.

He's been sentenced to 10 years.

Thank GOD I never let DS go to his house or ever left him alone with him because he gave me the creeps.

I am beyond furious and outraged. Both of us renounced catholicism some years ago because of our anger over the Irish mother and baby homes and paedophile cover ups and this is the very last straw that broke the camels back.

Matthew 7:16. I can't tell the difference between the church and satanism any more.

The church has very strict safeguarding now but in the past, in common with most organisations (eg television, radio, Scouts and guides, football, gymnastics, swimming etc) there was little awareness and paedophiles spotted and exploited their opportunity to access children.
I am so glad your son was not left with him OP.

Don't thank god, thank your own instinct.

paedophiles spotted and exploited their opportunity to access children.

Yes, but the other organisations have mostly been better at cleaning up their act whereas the churches (not just RC) are still being slow and inclined to coverups.

On this subject it is easy to tell the difference between the church and Satanism.
Unlike those of the church, the commandments of Satanism forbid child sexual abuse, specifically commandments 9 and 5.

I am a convert to Catholicism. It is obviously disgusting that such criminal acts were inflicted upon anyone but especially vulnerable children by their local religious leader that they trusted. Its truly horrific and thank God he is in prison, although personally I think child and teen rapists should get a much longer sentence than he did, especially considering his position of trust and authority. I am glad the victim came forward and hope he gets all the help that he needs.
