Christian Bookswap?

I am trying to clear out some of my books, but would also appreciate some more inspirational reading too. I rarely get to browse the Church library as the kids are usually fairly loopy by the end of the service!

Would anyone fancy joining me in a post-on-a-book to another Christian thread? It doesn't have to be a straight swap, it could just be a "does anyone want this book" thread. Or we could post comments here and discuss the books, recommend other titles if we wanted! I am aware that not everyone find the same books helpful, so you might want to briefly describe a book, so see if there are any takers.

I am happy to start off. I have copies of:

Joyce Huggett - Listening to God - 227 pages of Biblically based teaching on ways of refreshing/deepening your prayer life.

Lionel Blue - A backdoor to Heaven - very lighthearted book, about discovery of Jewish faith rather than Christian faith (although ironically, Blue comes to rediscover his lost faith, when falling through an unlocked door into a Quaker meeting!)

Hope and Suffering (1983)- Letters and discussions from Desmond Tutu, prior to the lifting of apartheid in S Africa

Christianity Rediscovered - Vincent J. Donovan - a reappraisal of what missionary work should entail, and in fact of what faith is for a Christian and what it isn't too - from an evangelical Roman Catholic missionary (?!) I really recommend this book for anyone going into ministry.

I would love to inherit a copy of the Sword and the Switchblade to pop onto ds1's bookshelf, if anyone else is tidying out?

Well! we have zillions of christian books which we need to sell. if there is an interest I will start listing them too (no swaps though, really do need to sell).

Fab idea - I used to work above a Christian bookshop and when they got a new manager he cleared out the entire stock in order to start again. So I filled boxes of decent but unsod stuff. It's still at my parent's house because we haven't got storage yet, but I'll have a rummage ASAP. I'm quite happy to send out free for postage if I don't swap.

There is a fairtrade shop not too far from me which runs a second hand Xian bookshop - they would be happy for stock I'm sure. This will hopefully get me organised and siciplined enough to declutter.

But if anyone's got a copy of "No Compromise" by Keith GReen I'd happily buy/swap it - we keep giving our copies away, but I really want to read it again!

I, too never get chance to browse with 3 kids racing round the church and up the altar!

The only problem is I have nothing to swap so could someone sell me something to start me off?

I've been back at church almost a year after finding it too hard to get there with kids for the last 7 years Really could do with some good reading material

If we all need extra pennies, maybe we should try Amazon? Has anyone sold books on Amazon before? Bobsmum, I have the Keith Green book, but no idea where it is. I shall endeavour to try and find in the next few days, but if anyone else in the meantime can help, then take theirs.

I Have "The Cross & The Switchblade" and "Run Baby Run" which is the same story but written by Nicky Cruz - more of his story, gangs etc - better read for kids I think.

I can lend either of them if you want to borrow & post back after reading.

Thanks Milliways. DS1 is only 7, so I was thinking of buying a copy of 'C & S' to have lurking for when he gets to the right age.

I've just bought another copy of 'The Hiding Place' too as I keep lending mine out. I love that book! Really inspirational.

Oooh NQGU if you still have the Vincent Donovan, could I buy it from you svp?

Bit of a cheeky ask, but does anyone have an unwanted biog of John Wesley, or even better, his journals? I would love to learn more about this amazing man. (But I am having to stick to a books budget as I am buying so many atm...)

Actually, forget that - I've just found a very cheap copy on Amazon!

And Bobsmyum, the Keith Green book is on Amazon for less than £3 - I'll add that to my list of stuff to buy after pay day! (I could spend a fortune on books...)

OOh I'd love to borrow the Wesley book when you've read it, Rosey, or find something else to swap it for. (I've a copy of Bonhoffer's letters here I could reserve for you!) I can wait though. My bedside pile of books to read is fairly well stocked at the moment.
