Is anyone watching The Chosen?

Wasn't sure whether to put in here or in telly addicts, but is anyone watching The Chosen?
What do you think of it?
I'm Catholic (practising) and love it. I love how it brings home the humanity of Jesus and his disciples.
It's made me think a lot about the theology of Jesus being 100% God and 100% man and what that would have looked like.

How far have you got and what are your thoughts?

I love it. It shows Jesus as fully human yet fully divine. It gives a beautiful view of His relationship with the disciples, who are very clearly completely humanGrin It shows the utter hypocrisy, inflexibility and pride of some of the Jewish establishment.
I really like all the small touches like how much Jesus is stressing over what to say in the Sermon on the Mount.
It's made me think a lot about a lot of different aspects of faith.

Totally agree.
I haven't watched the final episode of season 2 yet - saving it for the weekend.
Don't know how I'll cope with the passion scenes when they get to that stage!!

I'm a bit bereft now I've finished season 2. I really, really hope it gets enough funding for season 3, it didn't half end on a cliffhanger.

It is very thought provoking and gives another way to look at things. The only things that made me a wee bit uncomfortable were the coincidences with the disciples' back stories - Thomas being the wedding caterer, Simon the zealot being the brother of the paralysed man - but creative license and all that, and the way Matthew is portrayed. They have clearly made him autistic and played in to so many stereotypes and I don't know what they are basing that on. But, given the level of detail in his Gospel, I suppose it's possible.

I really love the way that they have portrayed Jesus. He is so kind and empathetic. His relationship with John the Baptist is just lovely and His gentleness with Mary is beautiful.

Yes, I really enjoyed it. I think it shows the humanity of the apostles and the heart and love of Jesus. Love how they've involved Mary in it too.

Lessstressedhemum · 20/07/2021 15:42

Yes, the relationship between Jesus and Mary is very touching, isn't it. He might be the Son of God but he still needs His mum.
I also really like that they show women amongst the disciples. I think Jesus's female followers are quite often overlooked or dismissed as less important. I love the way that the women in this are integral to the group.

Totally agree and I love how they show the followers flaws and struggles. Love the actor who plays Jesus, to me you can see how much he has grown and developed in his role.

I haven't heard of it, but after reading this thread I'm dying to watch it! Where can I find it, is it on Netflix?

SweetRuby · 29/07/2021 12:05

They have an app called the Chosen but you can also find it on YouTube.

I've watched the first season and loved it - must watch season 2. I thought it was done so well - thoughtfully and without cringe factor, and great authentic acting. Can't wait for more.

Bumping! I’ve been outvoted over my usual Easter watching of Risen and settling down to watch it now with returned adult DC.
