Writing prayers as part of funeral. The person died young. So many nice things have been said it will be easy to come up with a prayer about virtues - Lord help us to reflect Xs kindness, joy, humour in our own lives…,

To this persons children (youngest 11) this was their parent. They were all the wonderful tribute things but equally the one who told to clean their rooms, angry if they did not do homework, shouted a bit and they don’t see it reflected in the tributes (I’m sure they value and will value these in the future.)

I’d like to reflect a bit of that in one prayer - can you give me any tips. I really don’t want to thank for the wonderful father - he was but as I said he was not a saint just a dad. Unfortunately can’t ask children to help.

How about something like:
Lord you see us as we truly are. And you love us anyway. You saw X's hopes for the future and for his children, whom he loved so much. Give them peace Lord. Thank You for being a loving father to all of us

Thank you Lord that your grace is sufficient. We try our best and your love leaves room for all the rest. X loved his children with all his heart. Hold them close, through all the memories; The good, the bad, the happy, the sad. He was their Dad, but first he was your son. Help the children remember their Father the way you see him.

Thank you both - I’ll draft a mixture of the two. I just wish I didn’t need to. Please pray for us all, if you are religious.

The funeral today. Prayers were fine, a good service. I’m relieved that it is over now.
