First communion parties

Hello

My child has been invited to a party celebrating a first communion. I've never been to one before! Should we take a gift? If so, should it be religious? Will they expect me to stay at the party with my child, or just drop them off and come back later?

Obviously, I can ask the host. I just wondered if there is an established etiquette for this type of event?

Thanks MNers.

Sorry no one got back to you.
Gifts for holy communion are common, but doesn’t have to be religious. My go-to is a small st Christopher key ring.
