Are you fasting on Sundays during Lent?

The vicar at a church I was at previously before moving house always maintained that Sundays were Feast days so during Lent you wouldn't fast. I don't mean full on fast, just that whatever you had given up for Lent you could have / do on the Sundays.

This seems to vary between not just churches but individual people I've spoken to. As it happens, I did maintain my fast last Sunday but not consciously.

What are you doing this year? I'm not sure if it makes a difference depending on denomination but for reference I'm Anglican.

I’m fasting as Jesus did it for the whole 40 days. Have always feasted on St Patrick’s day but I may not this year. Miss chocolate so much!

@Muitolegal but if you include Sundays that's more than 40 days. Are you stopping prior to Easter Sunday?

I've given up chocolate too, as has DD. It's so hard isn't it!

No as I was told it was a sin to fast on Sundays as they are feast days. I don’t actually “fast” during Lent (with fast meaning to me meaning little or no food) but I abstain from meat on Fridays and I fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If I’ve chosen to abstain from something like chocolate or sugar etc I might allow myself it on a Sunday and would only stick to that for the true 40 days of Lent, which does not include Sundays.

That’s true it is more than 40 days isn’t it Confused will stick to every day as I don’t think I can be trusted with a creme egg at this stage. I’m going to start fasting until 12pm once kids are back at school as well as abstaining from chocolate I think. Good luck to everyone Smile

I've given up sweet stuff for the whole of lent. Eating it on Sundays would just make it harder.

It's true that you shouldn't fast (Not eat) on Sundays but I think your Lenten promises are the whole of lent.

In the old days they'd avoid nice food in lent so no meat, thin gruel etc. Plus no sex, no drink, no fun!

I dont eat meat on Fridays and Ash Wednesday but don't do the Catholic fast. That's meant to be a smaller than usual breakfast and lunch plus a small dinner that is no larger than the other 2 meals put together. It's not much of a fast. It's more food than some people get normally in some countries!
