Hi. I posted this yesterday but it seems to have got lost, so here it is again. Yesterday morning I got up and came downstairs, asking DH why he had lit a candle on the fireplace. He said he hadn't and it must have been burning all night. It hadn't, and anyway, it only has about 4 hours burning time. THEN, last night, I was woken up by the sound of electronic noises coming from DS room. When I went in, he was desperately trying to turn off his electric guitar...I told him off for playing in the middle of the night, to which he replied that it had gone off by itself!!! It had, and did it when I took it off him too! I'm getting more than a little spooked I can tell you. Any thoughts?

Well, not much idea myself but 2 'spiritual' ideas that spring to mind are excess electrical energy in the atmosphere in your home or a poltergeist. Will wait until the more knowledgeable people wake up and get on here!!

glitterfairy · 21/10/2004 09:02

Weird and very strange are my first. Second is there must be an explaination and third cant see what it is though?

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 09:14

I could put the guitar down to something electrical, but a candle which hadn't been lit and anyway had only a short burn time left on it alight by itself??? Hmm....

wobblyknicks · 21/10/2004 09:22

Well electrical energy in the atmosphere can produce flames by itself in unusual circumstances. Either way its odd!

Angeliz · 21/10/2004 09:22

OOH!!

I once lived in a cottage where there was an old gas fire that you had to press and click HARD to turn on, (I had NEVER used it), walked in oneday to the smell of gas and the fire was on!!!(but not lit!!).

The toy is somewhat explainable but the candle is wierd!!!!

Angeliz · 21/10/2004 09:24

wobblyknicks, we posted to the second!!!

wobblyknicks · 21/10/2004 09:25

Oooh, hadn't noticed that - more weird stuff!!! maybe its just a weird day today!!

agy · 21/10/2004 09:26

Could your ds have been sleepwalking? Might account for the guitar playing, but I wouldn't have thought the candle! OMG - you weren't sleepwalking as well, were you? Did you all have something indigestible for dinner?

Angeliz · 21/10/2004 09:26

we'll all have to report back any wierdness to this thread!

wobblyknicks · 21/10/2004 09:27

defo angeliz

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 09:40

I did wonder about DS sleepwalking although he has never done it before, but the guitar went off again when I walked out of the room...DS was in bed. Also, yesterday my mobile phone rang. I was busy so didn't go to it, but when I checked it later there were no missed calls or messages at all! It rang, but didn't IYSWIM.

How long have you lived in this place MS? Has anything wierd been reported before?

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 10:44

Glitterfairy, we've only been here since February. It's a pretty new house as far as I know...it's army quarters and I believe that there was only one other family here before us. The town itself is really REALLY old though, you know old rickety houses that lean over the road, with old beams on the outside. Maybe I should find out the history of the place.

hi MS
might be interesting to find out what was on the site of your house b4 your house was built.

it is definately abit unexplainable atm isn´t it! Electrical surges can happen in houses.. our computer sometimes effects the TV.

Not sure if it is still happening but there was a town in Sicily that had lots of strange electrical occurances and fires. They did not know wot was going on and people had to move out of their houses!

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 12:25

Hi Paps. That's what I will have to do I think. Not sure where to start though.

Assuming you are in the UK THIS might be a good place to start. Follow the various links for the area you want and find the ones for old maps.

I use this site a lot doing family tree research and it's really useful.

mummylove · 21/10/2004 13:23

i love stuff like this!!!!

candles are one of the most common way of communicating with a spirit.

one of my friends mums growing claimed to be a white witch. she told us that spirits can make themselves known through candles, next time you find the candle lit, ask if anyone is there - if the flames flickers then bingo!....

then quite quickly as politely if they would leave your house and got to wherever they belong.... yikes i'm scared now!!!!!!!!!

i am one of those people who love scaring themselves, i have not really ever had an experience with the other side, i would love to know if it is true.

please keep us posted and try to not be afraid as if there is some kind of paranormal activity going on in your house it will not harm you. i have read alot of cases were people just politely asked it to leave their house when they felt some kind of activity going on.

how do you feel about all this anyway, do you beleive in spirits? do you ever feel suddenly cold or get the shivers when anything spooky happens?

or ther is probably an explanation for all this, i too have experienced my dd toy's going off in the night and once when i was alone in the day but thats about it.

MarmaladeSun · 21/10/2004 16:15

Hi Mummylove. yes I do believe in all this, but it's kind of freaky when it happens to you! lol. I couldn't talk to the candle as DH and kids were around at the time, and I'd have felt a right dork! Plus it would have scared the kids silly. I'll keep you posted.

mummylove · 21/10/2004 23:05

anyone else around who has experienced this or who could offer marmaladesun any advice?

mummylove · 21/10/2004 23:17

come on everyone scare me!

MarmaladeSun · 22/10/2004 11:04

Morning all. Well pleased to announce that nothing untoward happened last night, but will let you know if it does.

BORING

glad that you did not wake up to Jimmy Hendrix and his guitar though

Who · 24/10/2004 23:06

I used to sit in a working circle as a spiritualist. We had a lot of stuff about - we used to get resonance alot, really loud whining/whistle sound, we had electrical feedback on one machine and a completely separate keyboard (toy one, battery) which played two notes - by itself. Amongst a lot of other things - that's another story.

I have had lots of electrical items (mainly in the kitchen) be erratic - ie working one day, not the next, but working the following day.. that sort of thing.

Spirit will work which ever way it can thro our own earthly energies. There is nothing to be scared of although it does make us jump, perhaps that is how spirit get our attention.

MarmaladeSun · 28/10/2004 16:14

Gulp...curioser and curioser as Alice said. The things just keep on coming. Yesterday I turned on the ignition in the car, and the electric mirrors just went berserk...up and down, side to side; and then last night my DD had a door bell for her bedroom off her dad for her birthday. When she went to bed, and she and DS were asleep the doorbell started chiming by itself! WAY too many things to be just 'one of those things' don't you think?

MarmaladeSun · 28/10/2004 16:16

Oh, and also last night DH spent about 4 hours trying to get the computer working; it just crashed. Then again this morning and still nothing. Then, as he was walking out of the door it said 'Welcome to AOL'!!!!
