Best way to do this - Christian counselling?

Have any Christians on here tried Christian counselling and, if so, did you find it helpful?

It's a long story but I'm being prompted by the Holy Spirit through prayer that there are some things I need to work through in relation to my divorce. I'm now really unsure I made the right decision to divorce but I don't think my ex would reconcile so I'm probably stuck with being single the rest of my life now. (I know some people interpret the Bible as allowing remarriage but I'm just really not convinced.) In any case, either way, I have emotions to untangle, wounds to heal and I feel I need another Christian to do this with, to focus, make the space and time etc.

I've had standard counselling before and it was helpful but I felt it really did need to be another Christian I was talking to.

Sorry for the rambling - any advice from other Christians much appreciated.

Do you have a church that you go to? If so speak to the Parish Priest - if they don’t offer it they often know who can. I had a lot of unresolved issues when I started going to my Church and had a few informal sessions with the priest. It did open up a lot of stuff that I hadn’t considered and, at his recommendation I also had some standard counselling as well.
Good luck - sorting your head out is never easy but worth it in the long run.

I did. I had a sozo session you can google a local church who do that near you. I want to say the experience was amazing. I felt free and can say I was delivered by Jesus from years of the most horrendous pain

My friend and her dh had marriage guidance counselling through her church, so I'm sure if you ask your priest, vicor etc they will be able to direct you to someone.
Good luck, I hope you find peace. Thanks

I do attend a church and the vicar is fab and there is prayer ministry going on which I've received for other difficulties but I feel like I want to talk to someone I don't know about this, if that makes sense? Glad to hear it has helped others. It's crazy that six years after we separated I'm only now realising I still carry hurt and a lack of forgiveness.

I did a quick search on Google and found several Christian counselling services in my area. There seem to be a few National bodies as well. They would find you someone more anonymous.

I've had counselling a couple of times and I sought out those with the same beliefs as me. It makes a huge difference because you can feel very open to give the full context to your feelings and decisions knowing that the person really gets it.

You still need someone very good and qualified. Can you ask around for recommendations? There's likely to be qualified counsellors already in your church.

Sorry, I just saw your second post. There still may be people at church who could give you recommendations or referrals on where to look for a Christian counsellor.

Christian counselling by a skilled therapist can be liberating and give clarity and healing. I have given and received christisn counselling myself and it helps. My advice would be to make sure your therapist is trained and qualified and, you are right to use someone you do not know. I hope it goes well for you

Thank you for all the comments. My vicar dudjt know anyone to recommend but I found a local lady who is a qualified and registered counsellor and psychotherapist who combines Christian prayer with counselling. I've got an initial free phone consultation later today so will see if I feel comfortable with her.

I've had it and it helped! And God used it in all sorts of ways.
