The 'god channels'

I flicked on to them the other day, and it was some nasty little man talking about a seed of some specific amount, and that if you gave a 'significant giver' amount, you'd be given blessings. Now, I'm not religious, but that seems completely different to the things I've heard about giving without thinking about getting it back and all that. Does anybody buy into it?

How wierd. So if you give you get blessings?

ZubZubDownthepub · 01/10/2007 17:13

That's the idea. It's on constantly, lots of preaching about giving a certain amount to get various blessings back. It's wierd.

I am a very big fan of the 700 club, dh does not understand why I insist on regularly watching it since I spend it's entirety shouting at the screen or laughing hysterically.

but I find it therapeutic

SueBarooeeooeeooooo · 01/10/2007 17:59

Oh, I completely disown the telethon people. It's a bit offensive to see them asking for money and promising miracles in reutrn.

(Agree with sfxmum, though, some of it's terribly funny)

harrisey · 01/10/2007 18:11

These people are weird and certainly not mainstream.

Though I am a CHristian I would say this is plain wrong. God blesses as He wishes, not because of what you give.

Probably explains why I avoid the God channels!

Alambil · 01/10/2007 18:58

depends wholly on the context though cos I'm sure the bible says that if you tithe (give) it will be given back (blessings) 10 fold

so maybe they have used that, or warped that... don't really know cos I didn't see it but some of the GC stuff is ace

SueBarooeeooeeooooo · 01/10/2007 22:07

Oh honestly, I've seen this stuff - that Mike Murdoch bloke is straight down the line dodgy, and Steve Munsey wheels out new 'revelation' everytime they do this.

I even heard him guarantee that if you gave a certain amount, one of the specific blessings you would get is 'you will not die before your time'. Well, duh. And Never never trust someone who says "You can't buy a miracle, but..." Complete manipulative rubbish.

IAmADaddy · 19/10/2007 18:37

"God spoke to me and told me get me 18 million dollars by the weekend. COme up to the television and touch the screen and HEAL! HEAL! OUT DEMONS OUT!"

American TV evangelists are fabulously batty...

StIncognita · 19/10/2007 18:39

I like EWTN.

God channels are mostly apostate rubbish.

They are all after your money.

View them at your peril.

Those guys teachings are unbiblical - and outright wrong! The New Testament has many warnings about such types.

The only channel that doesn't have such heretical teachings IMO is UCB.

geekymummy · 19/11/2007 15:46

Forgot to add, sadly many people fall for this stuff

boabsmum · 19/11/2007 15:51

Agree with geekymummy - UCB is the only channel which exercises a bit of wisdom and discernment.

Anything else, especially the "God" Channels are v v dodgy. Benny Hinn - anyone - scary biscuits - he's a Christian who claims the trinity is made up of 9 beings and also communicates with a spirit guide - that weren't in my Bible last time I looked!!!

IIRC the founders of the God channel have been forced to broadcast from Israel in order to escape various tax rules about "donating" - they're also wanted by the authorities in South Africa - allegedly - v v dodgy from what I've heard.

Stick with UCB - it has a budget of 0, hence the programmes look a bit naff, but I would say the content is Christian.
