Concerned over friend going to a spiritualist Church

One of my dearest friends lost her father 9 weeks ago and she feels like he is trying to contact her.

With this in mind she is tonight visiting the local spiritualist Church.

I am concerned over her welbeing. Her DH works two weeks on and three off and she is an only child. She has 2 children under 5 and it is very hard for her at the moment.

I lost my own father 7 years ago, but never felt like this.

I am so worried that they may take advantage of her at this vunerable time, esp as she is going looking for answers.

Does anyone have any experiance of anything similar.

As long as she only visits a reputable Spiritualist Church, they will not take advantage.

The type of readers she needs to avoid at this time are those who advertise and charge for their services.

I do think 9 weeks is a little too soon, as you say it is a very vulnerable time. However, please be assured that she has at least taken the 'safe' route to spiritualism. If nothing else, I am sure she will find comfort in the community she will find there.

stg i am sorry but i may have to disagree with you. my mother died nearly 8 years ago, yet a week later whilst i was at the family home preparing for the funeral, i could sense my mother - yet in the previous week the house had felt "empty" iyswim.

if she is meant to have contact then she will have contact, no matter how long it has been. i do, however, agree that she needs to avoid those who advertise their services (like the ones you find in the back of magazines) and people who would otherwise she would be wary of anyway. as stg says , the local spiritualist church may be a good palce to start the ball rolling

I don't think it is in any way too soon for TMH's friend's mum to be around/in touch IYSWIM, but I do agree that the friend might be very vulnerable to people who might take advantage, as it has only been 9 weeks. That is why i agree that the sp. church is the safest place to start. Just thought i would clarify that

My friend told me that she had a really nice time nad will be going on a regular basis. I do not have an issue with this, I was just concerned for her welfare, as it was a traumatic time for her.

Not too bad, well up every so often, but not too bad. I need to check on my dad, but we aren't close and I'm not too sure what to say. I might go with a basic "How are you doing?" text

I meant 9 weeks is too early for the bereaved to be searching for contact.

I spoke to my dad btw - he's doing ok, just wants to get the funeral done.
