My DH tells me he has started seeing ghosts

DH not normally known for anything spiritual says he has just started seeing ghosts, at home and at work. Apparently other people at work have seen them too.

As he works nights and is often tired (as are his colleagues) is he hallucinating or is there more to this?

Wow evenhope, that's fascinating. I love ghosty things!! What does he say he is seeing ? Do the others at his work see the same things?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 30/09/2007 23:11

More info evenhope or else couldn't even begin to speculate! What is he seeing? Where? When? Under what circumstances?

evenhope · 01/10/2007 11:27

He has seen an old lady in my nursing chair in our livingroom. I asked if it was his nan and he said no. Our house was only built in 1990 and the area was formerly farmers fields, so it isn't as if it is anything to do with the history of the house.

At work it is just someone out the corner of his eye. The other men have seen this as well but none of them saw any detail- they all assumed it was a colleague to start with.

He hasn't told me anymore. As I said he doesn't really believe in anything spiritual so is a bit

When he used to drive the children to school he once "saw" a huge hole in the road that wasn't there due to lack of sleep, which makes me wonder if this is the same, but that was a one-off and this seems to have happened quite a few times.

Low level frequencies caused by machinery or other electrical equipment can cause people to see things "out of the corner of their eye"
It can also cause the hair to stand up on the back of your neck and feel like someone is watching you.

Just an alternative to the spiritual explanation for the work stuff...

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 01/10/2007 12:08

Or.. in case you want to hear a spiritual version.. .. many people can start to re-gain their phychic abilities/six sense, without actually aiming to! (We are all phychic as children.) It sounds as if he is becoming aware of some 'other dimensional' activity but it is possible to shut it off.

There are others on here (St.G?) who are better at knowing how to do that than I am.. although I think it basically involves asking.

Just because he doesn't beleive in something, doesn't mean it isn't so.

evenhope · 01/10/2007 21:27

spagblog what sort of electrical equipment? (he works in a shop).

How would you get ghosts in a new house that isn't built on the site of anything?

Or how tired do you need to be to start hallucinating?

Its called Infrasound. I googled it here

I heard somewhere that a workplace had a fan that made infrasound that was effecting the employees, but I can't find that article.

spirt (ghost) can be attached to people rather than houses. Get him to ask them what they want, he might just get and answer!! good luck

Bit of an update. Came downstairs this morning and I was really annoyed that every light was on.

Got back from church and DH was up. He told me he'd "had a visit from [my] friends last night".

He woke up to see the old woman he's seen before with her hands down his throat; a man next to her restraining him; and a child aged about 3-5 playing by the computer. He said he was absolutely petrified, and had put the lights on because he was so scared.

He says the sore throat he's had all week has now gone, so whether this was a dream tied up with his throat getting better I don't know. All I know is that he is adamant he was awake. I asked him if he felt the old woman was good or bad in her intention and he said he was so scared that he didn't get any other impression.

This is the first time he's seen them since September but it's always the same old woman, and no-one he knows.

MeMySonAndI · 23/12/2007 12:33

I'm dithering whether to advise or not, a visit to the GP. He may be overstressed, over tired and perhaps in need of a few days off. I think it would be good to dismis any physical problem before getting to the spiritual solutions. Particularly if he had never believed in these things before.

There are some sleep disorders that make you have some very "real" dreams, in some ocassions you become conscient before the body is awake and you can feel as if someone is holding you tightly. I used to have those dreams when I was over stressed, it was so terrifying I keep trying to keep myself awake.

FatBellyHoHoHo · 23/12/2007 12:40

I have this sort of thing at times too... often I'll be quite alone and hear a voice very clearly as if someone is speaking over my shoulder saying 'Excuse me' Sometimes it's a man and sometimes a woman. I've said hello but they never say anything else.

I also used to live in a tiny flat where an old lady had lived for years and then died and when i used to get up very early in the mornings because i was doing shiftwork, the kettle would be on and almost boiling, ready for me to use. Again no one else was there.

I've had some other, less pleasant experiences but I don't really want to go into them now, would take too long.

I realise that what I've written is no help whatsoever to the Op but just wanted to share

drosophila · 23/12/2007 12:52

Meand... I used ot get those dreams too. Terrible but I think they are different ot what is described here. Those dreams are where the motor side of the brain lags behind the sensory part. In effect your mind s awake but your body isn't. You feel paralysed. I used to get them a lot but not for a while.

I love a good ghost story but if it actually happened to me I would be petrified too. I agree go to GP it could be stress etc.... If it is spooky then I guess you need one of those spiritualist types.

kiera · 21/01/2008 16:15

My post a bit late (one month!) but was reading this with interest. It could certainly be down to lack of sleep. when I am seriously sleep deprived (eg with newborn!) I get sound hallucinations when I am trying to go to sleep eg one night I heard someone turning our front door key and opening the door. did not really happen and I knew I was just hallucinating. it can happen in exactly the same way with visual hallucinations also. Usually when the person is about to go to sleep or just on waking so in half-asleep state. Brains so desperate to shut down and start dreaming that dreams start before you're properly asleep?
how is he now out of interest?

fransmom · 28/01/2008 12:02

hi it isn't spooky (well, not to me anyway) it is completely natural.

i would say that as other people have seen the spirits at his place of work then i would not think that he was hallucinating.

as for the old lady with her hands down his throat, he would have received some healing (esp now his sore throat has gone).the other spirits may well be guides or guardian angels.

it does sound as though his psychic ability is re-awakening. the best thing to do, is to go to a spiritualist church (you can find your local one on this website or this lady is very good www.yvonneanne.co.uk - i can personally recommend her.

good luck xxx

evenhope · 28/01/2008 13:22

Thanks for the CAT Fransmom- I hadn't realised there have been a couple more responses since I last checked back (wasn't ignoring you deliberately kiera and dros )

He hasn't seen them since the throat incident so he hasn't been to GP. I doubt he'll want to contact a psychic- as I said, he doesn't believe in it (LOL) but thanks for the link, which I've bookmarked- just in case.

ok

expatinscotland · 15/02/2008 00:52

how did i miss this?

i started 'seeing things' when i was 29.

you can better believe i didn't tell a soul until i was nigh on 34 years old.

i was brought up with a sensitive father who did his best to play the skeptic for most of his life.

no, he's not hallucinating.

how's he handling it now?

it comes and it goes with me.

i'd prefer it went, tbh , but i understand i'm not always in control of that.

fransmom · 15/02/2008 13:10

hi expat! ((((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))

hows you sweetheart? my dad sounds just like yours too, even up to the poitn of bringing us up to knwo that what we were seeing / hearing etc was completely natural. except when i gave my mom some healing for a torn muscle in her shoulder when i was about 15 and he wanted to sen dme to the local psych hospital as an in-patient.

ev hows things now? fm xxx
