Hi my great uncle 91 has been in hospital since Sunday.

He's breathing ok but non responsive. He hasn't moved since yesterday morning.

My mum got the hospital priest to see him on Monday.

My sister left a voicemail with my uncles priest but he hasn't got back to us.

Does he also need his priest to visit him?

We feel awful as we just don't know.

He's been to church every week for 70 years.

Is there anything we should be saying to him? We are unsure he can hear us.

The hospital had his religion down as Church of England which I corrected. Was I right to do so?

Thank you x

OK, ask the hospital priest if he has some rosary beads, My RC Mum died with hers in her hands and the last thing she did voluntarily was hold on to them. There are some nice rosary prayers. Priests often respond better to email these days as they are busy folk. If you do pop down to the church and Presbytery (priests house) if you can get into the back of the church there is often a newsletter, you can submit requests for prayers for the ill, also this can be used to announce the funeral etc. Many Catholics will attend a funeral mass for a fellow parishioner. The priest will also be able to talk you through all the procedures around the future funeral as well.

The local Funeral Director will also have a "hot line" for contacting the priest.

So sorry to hear he is so poorly, but he will get great comfort if he can still hear prayers - even a Hail Mary or Our Father.

Oh and yes right to correct religion.

Also you can ask the priest at the Hospital to come again, even if just for a blessing for your Uncle

Keep trying the priest, that is OK

I would imagine that his own priest will want to be there and will also want to give him the last rights. It's such a beautiful sacrament.
