I don't know why I was surprised by this

8yo dd: Alexa, happy Easter!
Alexa: Thanks, hoppy Easter to you.
Dd: Jesus is alive!
Alexa: No. Jesus Christ is not alive.

It made me sad to hear her rebuffed so strongly with no acknowledgment that her belief is valid.

Sorry, don't know what happened to the formatting there Blush

Can't blame Alexa, it was giving facts. He is in fact not alive.

I think it's an important lesson that not everyone has the same beliefs and that's okay. And believing in something doesnt make it true.

foreverblessedbee · 21/04/2019 08:50

He is alive! Bless your dd, OP. I'd turn Alexa off for the day!

So you want Alexa to lie?

Preggosaurus9 · 21/04/2019 08:52

Ask Alexa about Mummamed see if it's as disrespectful of the other faith of millions!

NabooThatsWho · 21/04/2019 08:53

Alexa deals in facts. Jesus is not alive. And as pp said, believing something in your heart doesn’t make it true.

Have a nice day anyway Smile

Drogosnextwife · 21/04/2019 08:53

You realise we are talking about an electronic device, that states only facts and has no feelings?

Redpostbox · 21/04/2019 23:36

It is sad OP but Alexa doesn't know everything.
Hallelujah he is risen indeed.
What makes me so sad is the lack of interest over the 207 Christians murdered today (Easter) in Sri Lanka by terrorists.

Vitalogy · 22/04/2019 12:12

It regurgitates the ideas of what ever human programmed it to say. Facts or not!

icedtea · 22/04/2019 12:21

Alexa states logical, given facts. Jesus Christ did in fact die 2000 years ago.

lljkk · 22/04/2019 12:36

Didn't JC die to cleanse the sins of many. Wasn't that the point. God loved us so much He sacrificed his only son.

Rather pagan, really!!

PCohle · 22/04/2019 12:36

Even in a Christian sense surely Jesus is in fact dead?

He died, was resurrected and 40 days later ascended to heaven. All we celebrate at Easter is the anniversary of his resurrection - he's still currently in heaven. No?

mimibunz · 22/04/2019 12:38

Evangelicals get their facts wrong.

NoCauseRebel · 22/04/2019 12:45

Erm, if you’re getting upset by that which is being told to you by an electronic device (you know Alexa isn’t real, don’t you?) then I suggest you take time away from the internet.

As for this What makes me so sad is the lack of interest over the 207 Christians murdered today (Easter) in Sri Lanka by terrorists. what happened is utterly devastating. However, the way in which this has been highjacked by Christians to talk about the persecution of Christians throughout the world (on one post I saw someone naming all these countries where Christians are constantly being persecuted) is utterly crass and insensitive.

Many of the victims of yesterday’s attacks were in churches. Presumably because the attackers knew that there would be congrigations of people in churches yesterday. However at least two were in hotels, and there is absolutely no way of knowing whether those were Christians, Muslims, hindu’s atheists involved. So to suggest that this was purely about Christians is wrong. It was about human beings.

Had the attacks been purely on churches I would have taken your point. But they weren’t.

Vitalogy · 22/04/2019 12:47

Even in a Christian sense surely Jesus is in fact dead? His body is dead but what he represents is not. Which is the Self, that exists.

Sculpin · 22/04/2019 12:53

I would hear this differently OP. Surely the fact that Alexa thinks he is dead means that she agrees he was once alive?

Vitalogy · 22/04/2019 13:40

I would hear this differently OP. Surely the fact that Alexa thinks he is dead means that she agrees he was once alive? Ha, yes. They'll be adding "Jesus never existed" if they catch wind of.

Lifecraft · 23/04/2019 09:32

I would hear this differently OP. Surely the fact that Alexa thinks he is dead means that she agrees he was once alive?

Well not really, because fictional characters can be alive or dead. I suspect Alexa would also tell you Bambi's mum was dead!

headinhands · 26/04/2019 00:46

I suspect Alexa would also tell you Bambi's mum was dead

I've only just got round to reading Bambi. She doesn't die though, does she? Sad

Lifecraft · 26/04/2019 13:22

I've only just got round to reading Bambi. She doesn't die though, does she?

Yes, but don't worry. She get's a bullet in the head on Friday, but on Monday, she springs back into life and is happily frolicking around.

ZenNudist · 28/04/2019 00:27

Jesus is a historic figure not fiction. That at least atheists can agree on with Christians, or at least anyone who does any research.

The question is not 'did Jesus live?' But 'did he live after death?' I think yes, others disagree. It was a long time ago. I like to have hope.

OP what can you do? Youve got an Alexa, you aren't going to chuck it (though personally i think they're shit). You and your dd are living in a secular world. May as well get used to holding out against it.

willyougobacktobed · 28/04/2019 00:30

Of course Jesus isn't Alive 🙄 ffs

AuldJosey · 28/04/2019 00:34

I think the Christian interpretation of Jesus being alive in every one of us is different to Alexa saying, no, he's dead actually. Surely an 8 year old knows the difference? He's not living in Jerusalem still. He's well dead. I think he ascended into the heavens having rose again. So he kinda died twice. Safe to say, he's dead.

mathanxiety · 28/04/2019 00:36

The Christian belief is that he rose from the dead and did not die again so is in fact alive.
