Tonsilitus v. Christening tomorrow (CofE)

My best friend since childhood is christening her twins tomorrow. I am supposed to be Godparent, (as I am also her only friend who has been confirmed.) (The other Godparents are to be 2 non-beliver and a Jew)
But my tonsils feel like razor blades.
So....

  1. Can the CofE organise a last minute proxy for me?
  2. Can anyone suggest any remedies, as I've maxed out on paracetamol and can't sleep.

I believe a last min proxy can be appointed - but hope you can make it. Gargling with dispersible aspirin really helps when I suffer. Get well soon.

Sadly I definitely can't go tomorrow, I can barely get out of bed.
And anyway, my best friend would probably lamp me if I breathed illness over her babies. They've had a rough ride into this world.

Difflam analgesic spray. Ibuprofen. Lots of fluids and rest. GP if still bad in a few days just in case you need antibiotics. I am sure she will understand. Hope you feel better soon.

I get tonsilitius probably once a year;

My self care includes garling with salt and warm water - especially works a treat if you've got white spots on your tonsils.

At first swallowing really hurts but keep at it as it does get better every sip you take.

Drink coffee in the morning, have some icey water for the drive over and just try and get through the hour - you don't have to stay longer than that.

If not, everyone is human and your best friend should understand.

Tyrozettes have been good for me, alongside difflam. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Well I haven't got any of those drugs, I'll send my DH to the pharmacy in the morning... but searching through my cupboard I found some toddler nurophen that's only 3 months past its best before date.... it'll have to do.....plus gargling.

Any thoughts on how to organise a proxy. What does that involve?

Sorry for asking a stupid question... but gargling with dispersable aspirin... do you drink it afterwards....on top of the cocktail of paracetamol and Nurofen?

Get the drugs, sip cold water, skip the reception and come home and sleep but power through the service.... it's a big deal. I don't think you can spread tonsillitis by breathing on somebody but willing to be corrected!!

I swallowed the aspirin but it is also effective to spit it out. I think (not sure so check) it's ok to take it with paracetamol but have to be more careful with ibuprofen.

  1. The vicar said she'd do a recommitment to baptism when I'm better.
  2. I now have penicillin, throat spray, aspirin to gargle, nytol and permission from a GP to carry on paracetamol for a 4th day. God Bless the NHS.
Sleep well
