Ordination present - any ideas?

Ok, ok so I have left it really late but my best friend is getting ordained on Sunday and I haven't got her a present yet, and to be honest I have no idea what to get her. Brain has gone to mush recently what with starting a new job and having a teething child from hell! Anyway if anybody can offer me any suggestions I'd be more than grateful!!

The new Christopher Hitchens book?

Seriously, some kind of spiritual book or book of poetry with vaguely religious overtones?

Depends how religious you are. I would dedicate trees with the Woodland Trust but this is my standard gift for everything. Or something Fairtrade or an Oxfam Unwrapped gift.

Or a CD of some really fantastic gospel music? More fun. [http://www.woodland-trust.org.uk/plantatree/index.htm This looks good]] and nice title but i don't know what it's like.

I would get a beautiful cross necklace and this book.

I know its Sufism rather than straight Chrsitianity but its beautiful sporitual poetry that has survived many generations

choosyfloosy · 25/06/2007 19:56

aargh - sorry the gospel link was this one

tassis · 25/06/2007 19:58

or a rose bush

tassis · 25/06/2007 19:59

or what about a willow tree ornament?

Peachy · 25/06/2007 20:04

Recommended for anyone involved in churches:

"The Dave Walker guide to the church" by Dave Walker.

Its a book of absolutely hysterical church cartoons (if you're that way inclined). He has a website, so you can see the sort of humour:

this is the Rumi book I have asked FIL to get me for my birthday

NorwichMummy · 26/06/2007 23:40

I went to see if could could get it today from Borders but it was out of stock. THey should hopefully be able to order it for me so it is here in time. I'm not at all familliar with Rumi's writings but from the bits I have gleaned in the last day I am really interested. I think I may have t get one for myself at some point! I really like this type of writing, although tbh I have mainly read things like the Desert Fathers and other early Christian writers rather than non Christian ones. I'll have to give it a whirl!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, I really appreciate them. I am just useless at present buying at the best of times!

I know my Islam professor raves about how beautiful the poems are, and has a collection and the bits I have read seem very beautiful (and just think how intelligent you'll look lol )

Hoping FIL buys it for me, sadly however suspect I'll geta voucher and instructins to buy that odd book myself, still its the (xenophobic) thought that counts!

One of my friends was ordained last week and I gave him a bottle of wine!

If I had been more organised, I probably would have looked for a devotional book.

bluesky · 29/08/2007 09:48

Has anyone more ideas, as my friend is getting ordained soon?

Norwichmummy, what did you get in the end? Do you know what other gifts your friend received?

bluesky · 30/08/2007 09:23

anyone?
