My DH and I have been invited to a wedding next month between two members of this religion, I have no idea what the etiquette is re clothes etc. I know alchohol isn't allowed but thats about it.

Anyone have any info please.

Hide!

No alcohol or any drugs, and that includes smoking and caffeine, so no tea or coffee or coke unless it is decaf

SueBaroo · 16/06/2007 13:11

Smart and not too revealing, just like you would in a church wedding, really.

They don't drink alcohol, tea and coffee and cola, either, I think.

SueBaroo · 16/06/2007 13:11

MB, I thought it was the tannin they objected to, not the caffiene..

Blandmum · 16/06/2007 13:12

it is any drug. They are deffo opposed to acffien, since caffien free coke was largly produced to attract the sizable mormon market in the US.

So they don't approve of tannin or caffiene

SueBaroo · 16/06/2007 13:20

ah yes, I meant not just th caffiene. I meant that decaff still isn't going to fly with them, really.

What odd things I find myself discussing on a saturday morning.. lol

Blandmum · 16/06/2007 13:21

I've known Mormons drink decaff. Step MIL's parents are observant Mormons and they do.

Step MIL is an ex mormon, and loves to rant about them ;)

SueBaroo · 16/06/2007 13:24

Oh right, p'raps its a conscience issue with them then, like transplant surgery for JWs.

In which case, flower, it'll be irrelevant, lol. But I still wouldn't expect it. However, if they've invited non-lds, I would think they've probably taken it into account.

Flower3554 · 16/06/2007 13:32

Sounds like a fun day
I wish I could follow Rhubarbs advice to be honest.

Would short sleeves be ok, someone told my DH that arms have to be covered and I'm thinking July wedding?, it could be roasting hot.

could you have a lightweight stole?

Flower3554 · 16/06/2007 13:36

or a light shawl/scarf perhaps. Pashmina anyone?

littlerach · 16/06/2007 13:53

My friend was brought up a mormon and does wear short sleeves when at church, byt certainly not revealing in any way.

Flower3554 · 16/06/2007 13:58

Forgive my ignorance but are Mormons the same as Latter Day Saints?

Not that it makes much difference as I know very little about either.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 16/06/2007 13:59

yes, they are the same.

There are actually 3 'types' of LDS, but one of the organisations is mauch larger than the other two. The names are used interchangably

Flower3554 · 16/06/2007 14:03

Thanks MB and everyone else of course. I'm sure we'll have a nice time. Must say it's the first time we've received an wedding invite thats caused so much concern.
