scripture exams

I did proper sit down timed scripture exams as a kid every year. probably until i got more opinionated in my early teens.

i can't remember much about them. did anyone else do them?

i guess late 70s to early 80s.

i was also in the Junior Missionary Association and had a medal and a book i had to fill in and if i didn't go to church i'd get told off especially if i made my mother do it for me.

Ooh and sunny smiles where I sold pictures of children's faces to people for money after church.

the main reason for htis is whether anyone can see past papers online as i'd love to see the sort of questions i had to answer.

all this parental enforced enthusiasm didn't last. it was a methodist church if that helps.

Yes, we did. Though, like you I can't remember much detail now.

JAM is still going, my dc had collecting books when they were little. No telling off though.

Yup - Sunny Smiles - we had them too.

I knew it was a Methodist Church long before I got to that last sentences Grin

Hello Back

If they were methodist then they'd be the Junior Missionary Association. I don't suppose they do them any more. no easier way to have children refusing to go to church than sit down scripture exams.

My Nana's house was covered in pictures of missionary families. she had little saving boxes for them.

Thanks for writing - it looks like all this was fairly 'niche'!
