Do you Meditate? If so, how did you learn?

I want to learn to meditate. I have always wanted to ... I have read a couple of books recently that talk about the benefits of meditation ... with a few guide lines on how to do it.
So, yesterday I had an hour free (very rare for me) and I thought I would give it a go. I got comfy on the sofa, closed my eyes and began to work on focussing on one thought and blocking other thoughts.
The next thing I knew, a rather loud snore jarred me awake suddenly and I had 4 minutes to get to school to pick up DS . Cue a mad loony running around (a la Jennifer Saunders in Ab Fab) tripping over toys and chairs to get my keys and leg it out of the door to the car
This isn't the first time this has happened.
How can I meditate if I fall asleep within 3 minutes of starting?
How do I learn?

Meditation for me has always been about being awake and focusing on every single part of my body. I can never fall asleep until i have tensed and relaxed each bone, or muscle, or whatever.

You just sound like you're knackered.

Wait until you're not under so much pressure off everyone around you.

Otherwise it's impossible.

Yeah, you are right, I am knackered.

So if I wait 15 years till both my children have left home I could learn do you think FF?

I am so owed a whole day off ... in MY house with NO ONE asking for food or entertainment ...

I told DH that all I wanted for Mother's Day was a whole day off. That the best present would be for him to take the children out at 9am and not return till bedtime.

So, what did I get?

A fkin biscuit tin

Nicely wrapped from nice trendy funky shop but still ... a biscuit tin

did it have biscuits in tho ?

wrt meditation, i too can never do it without faling asleep BUT that in itself is a good sign, it means you are relaxing properly! I used to do it either at night so i could be in bed doing it just in case, or set an alarm if i needed to be somewhere. I don't have the time or space right now to meditate tho

I don't but perhaps should!

I did learn though - I did a course with tibetan buddhists.

A novice clears the mind more advanced meditators have focused meditation - it is quite complicated you can buy books on it.
