concerned my d/d 5 nearly 6 is too sensitive ..so switched on scary growing up too quickly.

She is a wee worry wart !! Worries about classmates parent who died long before she started the school. feels sad for child . The questions are starting too about wee MAddie I want to tell her the truth but she is only 5 . There is no fooling her.
any suggestions please. Her latest one is mummy i know you are sad because you are missing DAddy ..

It is lovely she is so caring about others. but i worry for her she puts everyone first before herself. It's a tough world out there and obviously she is quite intelligent but i want her to be true to herself!!

My DD (5) is similar but not quite so much. She went through a phase a month or so ago asking me all about death/dying/how long will I live for etc. And she's very caring towards her friends at school and really notices if they're not feeling right etc. I think all kids have this sensitive period and I guess once they start school, their minds are being filled with so much more and they're becoming far more aware of people and how humans interact.
Is your DH away at the moment then if she senses your sad?
My DH has been away on op tour for 5 months and he came for 2 weeks hols to a changed daughter and was really upset that she had changed so much whilst he was away.
Perhaps after being at school for longer, your DD might realise that not everyone is kind as she is and start putting herself first more often.
I remeber when I first sent DD to creche at 17 months, the woman told me she just stood at the table and watched the others and didn't push her way forward. I thought I don't really want my 1 year old pushing the others but now, she's realised, from preschool/soft play centres etc that she has to be a bit assertive to get on and perhaps your DD will do the same. I wouldn't worry for now and just try explaining sensitive issues in a really simple, yet truthful way.

thank you for your reply luciemule. my d/h is getting ready to go to basra on 20th of may. sounds like perhaps your d/h is in military too. It really is wowful. it is the two weeks predeployment that confuses the kids. I just want him away now and the countdown on until he is home. 3.5 months he will be away for. after that all detachments are in line with army and it will be for 6 months of their lives ..
My d/d sounds very like yours. At a farm we went to she stood forever at top of slide not wanting to push others in.

I am trying to make her true to herself. /she doesnt have to ask any of her friend to do anything. just run along and play with whomever she wants. she is a pleaser just like i was i th ink that is it i don't want her to be too much like me

Yes, DH is in the army too and that's why, because of the 6month deployments every 2 years, he's deciding whether to leave once he reaches pension point. He's hated being away from the kids this time and I think it's a detrimental effect on the kids.
Do you have family/friends nearby? Are you posted in UK?
I know what you mean about your DD. My mother was very much similar to you and always put others first. She's now found it didn't really get her anywhere and wishes she could be more assertive - although she's lovely and has lots of friends. I always remember her pushing me to stand up for myself and join in with others, even though I was quite shy, and it didn't get me far either. I still find it quite hard to meet new people (probably as we're moving so often so I have just tried to let my DD crack on with it and fortunately, she's now a sociable little thing.

luciemule we are 5 years and counting to pension!!! I have no family near me. we are in buckinghamshire . My eldest sister is coming from France to see me for long week-end she is so good. Going home to Ireland for 2 weeks and up to d/h parents for a week so that should hopefully get the summer in well.

that is so hard for you every two years. We are here 3.5 years and although taken me along time to settle after Cyprus. We will know by end of july hopefully if we have to move. I t hink perhaps better the devil you know. who knows. have to go half an hour left before i collect d/d nursery and school run and have to to hoover.

d/h hubby tonight cannot wait.
