Baptism/ Confirmation

I'm sure this will have been said before, but I'm new on here.

I'm getting Baptised and Confirmed into the Methodist Church on Sunday and I'm scared and want some support and help.

I'm happy to be doing it, but scared to be in front of people and I didn't go to church until I was with my now husband and it still all feels new. I just want to know I'm not alone and it will get easier/ I will understand more. I know it's all a learning process, but it's easier to be in the background!

I'm meeting the two minsters tonight to go over the service and what it means, and I'm also wanting some ideas for hymns as I've been asked to choose two. I'm currently thinking Shine Jesus Shine and Be Thou My Vision, but other suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks Smile

Be thou my vision is a great hymn to have at a baptism - I had it at mine. It's such a big step, and I can totally understand your being nervous about being the centre of attention. Could you say something about this to the ministers so that they can handle it sensitively?

Thanks for replying.
Yes I can talk to them, in fact I've been in two minds about since I first voiced the idea in September, but I've done some Bible study with the minster & someone from the Church and she knows I'm still a bit nervous.

Maybe you need to think a bit about why you're nervous. Are you nervous because it means standing up in front of everyone? If so I think you will find everyone is going to be so happy for you that it will be less of an ordeal than you think. Are you nervous because it's a big commitment and you're not sure your're ready for it? In that case I think it would be a good idea to share your worries.

Be Thou My Vision is lovely! (Don’t know the other one, not meaning to slate it by omission.)

I’m sure you will be fine but i agree with Niminy that it’s good to look at the reasons why you’re feeling nervous. It is of course totally fine to be nervous, it doesn’t by itself mean you’re doing something wrong or that you aren’t in the right place. If you feel like you’re nervous because this isn’t a step you want to take at this point then that’s worth listening to as well.

Will your husband be there? Will that help with the nervousness about being in front of people?

I think I'm nervous because I don't know if I'm ready, but I like to know everything and in that way I'll never be ready!
Thanks for your support, just going to see the ministers now
