Am I being over-sensitive?

I'm Jewish. I've been invited to a local school to do an assembly about Passover. I have no connection with the school, other than that I have previously done an assembly there on a Jewish topic.

In one email discussing content the head closes with "shall we paint a red cross on a door?". In another email discussing how to organise tasting the foods the head closes with "we could have 13 to supper".

Do these comments seem a bit weird?

Good gracious that sounds like something from Little Britain.

Misguided attempt at humour, do you think?

Sounds more like a mangled Wiki search of Passover and a frantic stab in the dark.

Very weird, seems odd to invite you and then comment in that way

Agreed - misguided attempt at humour. I think in the book of Exodus it's the doorposts rather than the door. 13 is the new testament, anyway. I wouldn't be offended, though...

The purpose of your visit would be to improve the knowledge and understanding of your faith, so I suggest that you go ahead and do just that - it sounds as though it is needed.

You're right, they clearly need to improve their knowledge and understanding, so I will go ahead, even though I feel uncomfortable.

I have not reacted to either of those sentences in my replies to the head. I want to say something, but I don't know how.

OP can you just drop in at the end of your email, "Sorry, not sure what you mean by putting a red cross on the door?"
