Have you given anything up for lent?

I have given up biscuits! Every night well not every but at least 4-5 a week I have a cup of tea and around 3-5 biscuits. I have given them up for lent! Any biscuit munchers knows this is hard (obviously there are much harder things).

Has anyone else given anything up for lent?

I usually give up alcohol, but this year my children said they bet I couldn't give up Facebook. So I deactivated my account and am determined to be more 'present' with them, and not half listening because I'm scrolling through FB.

LengendofThePneumonites · 14/02/2018 15:28

Yes, food till 6pm. So far so good. Just prepared lunch for ds.

Novia · 14/02/2018 15:32

Bread and sugar (specifically sweet things like cakes, biscuits, chocolate, etc). I usually do sugar which is a slog but okay after a couple of weeks. Bread might be more challenging though!

cindersrella · 14/02/2018 16:11

That's brilliant all. The Facebook one I think will be difficult I think. I haven't been on it for around 10 years as I was obsessed and found myself scrolling through things I had already read 😬

I have been trying to think in my head if chocolate bars count as biscuit because I have a bit of a problem with those too 😂

I have thought of giving up sugar but honestly I have done it several time to be healthier and I just can't manage with out it. It seriously make me irritated and and to cry Shock

No, but I take up something each year. This year it's practising crochet every day.

cindersrella · 15/02/2018 16:15

Ahh slipper that's interesting! Smile

Wine. And I told the priest so I can't back down now Sad. I'm sure I'll be a size 10 by the end of lent though, right?

imnotalpharius · 15/02/2018 16:19

We've given up take aways as a family, we'll then decide on a charity to donate some of the savings to.

HelenaJustina · 15/02/2018 16:28

Coffee, chocolate and cake... don’t have any of them every day (bar coffee) but all three together will be a push!

Also joining a Lenten study group.

Sugar

cindersrella · 18/02/2018 08:20

So the whole biscuit and chocolate giving up has been difficult! Especially when I have a cup of tea or coffee!

How's everyone else doing?

There is one perk! I have lost 2.5lb since Tuesday! Whoop whoop

I've given up gluttony. So I can have one biscuit, or one piece of chocolate but not a whole lorry load (which is normal).

CastielIsMyAngel · 18/02/2018 08:29

Plastic. Well, as much as I can. Bought some good old fashioned brown paper bags to store opened/loose food in and for sandwiches etc and I’m convinced stuff tastes better and keeps longer

gigi556 · 18/02/2018 08:34

Sugar here. So no cakes, biscuits, chocolate etc. it's hard!

00100001 · 18/02/2018 09:49

My no sugar has been OK actually. I made some rocky Road yesterday for a friend and didn't even sneak a mini marshmallow!

However I have 5 birthdays in Lent.... Meep!

WiggyPig · 18/02/2018 16:30

Alcohol, because a glass of wine in the evenings had moved from treat to habit. Fine so far, but I'd be worried if 5 days defeated me Grin

Niminy · 19/02/2018 10:18

I do sugar each Lent - hard, but good to know that I can go without something I love! I only do Mon-Sat though - Sunday is not a fast day.

This year I am making a commitment to give more money during Lent, so that it doesn't slide into just being a diet.

cindersrella · 19/02/2018 21:41

These are all brilliant! I gave my daughter a biscuit earlier and was like.... I need it! But I resisted

I also got a packet of mini cheddars from the cupboard yesterday and went to open them.... then I realised they are biscuits too.... I resisted Grin

Meat, alcohol, takeaways.

purpleangel17 · 22/02/2018 19:24

Alcohol. So far haven't missed it but a pub lunch this Sunday will test me!

UnicornSnot · 22/02/2018 19:28

Alcohol. Miss it! Blush

ImListening · 26/02/2018 19:42

Meat, all nuts but especially peanuts and one more thing which I can’t remember. So that’s a good start —not—

But had a minor op today so will be having meat & nuts this week if I feel the need.

Dh & dcs says I should give up Mumsnet. I laughed. Grin

00100001 · 27/02/2018 06:55

So, it turns out sugar is in bloody everything!

Bbq crisps? Sugar!
Pombear? Sugar!
Mayonnaise? Sugar
