Ordination in a Catholic Church

Please could someone help me here?

I am not a church-goer but I have been invited to an Ordination (Deacon) in a Catholic Church. The person being ordained is not a close friend, more of an acquaintance really, but someone who helped me out recently.

I am looking forward to going but would like to know if it is appropriate/expected to get a present for this person? I was intending to send a card... but is that appropriate?

I would really appreciate it if someone could answer. Thanks in anticipation.

Have only been to one ordination (CofE) so far. (Hopefully, I'll be at dh's in a couple of years' time).

I think that a card would be lovely, and I really don't think a present would be expected. Close friends and family might give something, but you shouldn't feel obliged to.

Card is a lovely idea some people do buy presents but tends to be something religious.

Yep - my friend was given a little pot for anointing oil, and a home communion set. Stuff they'll need for the job kind of thing.

The cathedral near us (Ely) has a good selection of ordination cards as well, so that may be another option for you... if you live near a cathedral!
