Christian prayer thread for winter

Hello all! I just posted a long post on the old thread and realised it's full up, so just going to copy this here to sunshine - will try and do a roundup of other prayers too later. Everyone welcome here!

Just want to reiterate what Oma and Cocoa have said so well, sunshine. It's no wonder church feels like a hostile place and you freeze up. I feel so sad for you that that man did this to you. But Christ isn't the church , the church is supposed to be his body, reaching out hands of love and help and compassion, and sometimes they mess that up. Hugely. Sometimes evil crawls in. But that doesn't mean God's abandoned you. I love that Oma referred to the prodigal son, I was looking at Rembrandt's study of that parable the other day and so struck afresh by the father's absolute joy in his son being home, his grace in embracing him whatever he'd done. Sadly you've had a poor excuse for a father so it must be so difficult to frame God in the language of father for you Flowers but God is the father who loves you beyond your imaginings, who reaches out arms of compassion and forgiveness, who gathers you in and just loves you. Loves you so much, so, so much, without end. You can never do anything that will make God abandon you. Jesus said that he is with us always, even to the end of the age.

I know church is threatening, lovely, but there are a lot of people who would love to help, here on the internet and in real life. It's just a case of reaching out, but I know that must seem impossible right now. I've learned that God is a God of restoration, a God who longs to mend the broken places and devastations in people's lives. I've seen people set free from so much and believe with everything I am that God longs to set you free, too.

I'd love you to find some medical support. I'm so sorry your GP is so rubbish. More and more the case, sadly. I pray you can get in to see someone. Would you also consider some counselling? Like cocoa says, that doesn't mean they would take your DC away, just that they would want to support and help you. Flowers you sound a lovely mum and have done so well to get to this point. I'm glad you are reaching out here. Please take care and know God's love pouring over you by the Holy Spirit. Flowers

Great advice there from BES! Hope you got your hot water fixed, Oma.

Hope your DD is OK, BES. And how did it go with the consultant, MHD? I know that Edd isn't well at the moment too, so I thought we should have...

Day 14: A prayer for anyone who is unwell

Lord, bless BES's DD, Edd, MHD and any on this thread or known to us who are unwell at this time. Grant a swift recovery to those who are afflicted by the usual short-term winter bugs, patience and fortitude to those whose illness is chronic, and peace of mind to those who suffer in mind or spirit rather than - or as well as - in body. Fill with your care all those who care for those who are unwell, their families and friends, doctors, nurses, paramedics, midwives, and all healthcare professionals, and grant them the gifts of reassurance, patience, and loving kindness. We pray for those researching new treatments for illnesses, and for those who travel to some of the most difficult places in the world to care for the sick and the injured there. We pray for the work of hospital chaplains and for all who minister to the sick. Help us all not to lose sight of you when things get difficult for us, but inspire us always to follow your example of care, love, patience, and faith. Amen.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/03/2018 00:18

Tried to pray while waiting but not only does the bum go numb, the brain does too. . Did manage to pray for pesky lungs and water features and cocoa.

8 hours wait. Glad I packed a book.

Lisette40 · 02/03/2018 00:20

8 hours? That's terrible Bes.

Dutchoma · 02/03/2018 06:55

Plumber came, by this time the heating had packed up too. Probably different probems. He managed to restore the heating, but not the hot water, just said to leave the loft open. As he charged £65 and I have home and heating emergency insurance I rang them. Should have done that straight away as now they could not get back to me yesterday. They are obviously overrun. Curiously enough they would not come out for a frozen pipe, but would come out if I said that I had no hot water. Let’s hope that they don’t come, diagnose a frozen pipe and then say there is nothing they can do about it.

What was the outcome of the appointment at eye casualty (?) after the 8 hour wait?

Dutchoma · 02/03/2018 14:48

Hot water is flowing again. Praise the Lord!

CishAndFips · 02/03/2018 18:50

Thank you MHD I'm would really appreciate that. Great advice BES thank you I've noted all that down. I attended the church council meeting yesterday and mentioned my ideas. Everyone seemed to be on board so I'm feeling quite optimistic. Hurrah for hot water Dutch

Tuo · 02/03/2018 23:47

Glad the hot water is sorted Oma.

8 hours in A&E is horrendous BES. Hope your DD is ok.

We've been celebrating DD2's birthday and it has made me think that I should write....

Day 15: A prayer for our children

Lord, we thank you for our children, and ask your blessings on them. Whatever their age, we acknowledge their individuality and that their hopes and dreams are not ours. Give us patience and faith in them as we journey alongside them, and the ability to support them without being oppressive. We pray for the littlest ones, that they may sleep and grow in love; for the toddlers, exploring the world with fresh eyes and excitement; for the young ones, as they learn and develop in independence; for the teens, as they engage with the world and find out more about who they are; and for our adult children, as they negotiate their own lives. We pray for those worried about exams, those whose health or mental health is a worry, for schools, and friendships, and jobs. We pray for parents and grandparents, for those who stand in loco parentis, for those who would like to have children but cannot, and those whose relationship with their children is fraught. We remember that you invited us to be like little children as we approach you, and we ask for the ability to see the world through their eyes, and to engage with it with their passion and directness. Through your son, who was born as a helpless child for our sakes. Amen.

Ds woke me early with stomach pains and has been sick. He is now back on the computer. Confused leaving me a pile of washing to do

Dutchoma · 03/03/2018 11:09

We used to say: “Praise the Lord for automatic washing machines”. Let’s hope the thing behaves itself.

Lisette40 · 03/03/2018 13:18

Amen. And tumble dryers.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/03/2018 17:09

Thank God ex's car is out of the ditch it ended up in last night.and for his friend that helped him out. And two 4x4 drivers that stopped to help.

Dutchoma · 03/03/2018 18:39

Well that is a bit of good news BES. But a worry you could have done without.

EddSimcox · 03/03/2018 23:23

That’s a lovely prayer for the children tuo.

Prayers for all your trials bes

Tuo · 04/03/2018 00:29

Oh no, BES. Your poor DS. And poor you. And I'm so glad your ex is OK.

One of the readings for tomorrow is Jesus throwing the money-changers out of the temple, which has inspired this weekend's prayer.

*Day 16: A prayer

Lord, teach us to distinguish between the things of God and the things of the world and inspire us to seek and to serve the former more than the latter. Give us the strength to resist those voices that would tell us that what we have is more important than what we give, that how we look is more important than how we behave, and that status is more important than service. Overturn those lazy habits that distract us from you, and drive any complacency out of us. Fill us with righteous anger when we see examples of injustice, corruption, violence, or deception, and give us the strength to speak out against these and the other vices that undermine our society and threaten the bonds between individuals. Make us fair; make us brave; renew us and inspire us. Amen.

Tuo · 04/03/2018 00:31

Oops! Blush Title missing. Wish I could go back and edit...

Day 16: A prayer for courage in the face of corruption (inspired by John 2. 13-22)

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2018 20:07

Shattered .been tackling the room of doom. Got rid of a lot. Still got more to do. Tomorrow Dr has appointments with physio. Need to tell school. They will not be happy.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2018 20:08

Dd not Dr. Stupid phone

BlackeyedSusan · 05/03/2018 07:17

Madhairday · 05/03/2018 10:50

Thankyou for these continued wonderful prayers, Tuo :)

Hope the physio goes well, BES.

I'm not too well today and feeling quite down with it. Have too much to do but my body is like a dead weight and infection signs.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/03/2018 11:22

oh no mhd.

must also remember to see ds's teacher at 4

helpmegetbetter · 05/03/2018 18:04

Can I ask someone to pray for me? I'm really depressed and quite frankly would end it if it wasn't going to hurt s lot of people and damage my son.

I just need to feel better.

I have antidepressants in the cupboard but tbh they haven't solved things in the past. I'm not a Christian anymore but I am desperate and still believe in the power of prayer.

Sorry to barge in x

BlackeyedSusan · 05/03/2018 18:32

Prayers helpme. and welcome.

Lisette40 · 05/03/2018 19:13

Will certainly say a prayer right now. Perhaps your doctor might find a better medication to help. It can take a while to find the right one. Sending best wishes.

CishAndFips · 05/03/2018 19:13

Hope physio went wellBES. Get well soon MHD prayers help and Flowers I hope you have some real life help too, be kind to yourself.

Dutchoma · 05/03/2018 20:44

It sounds as if there is a lot going on for you Pleasehelpmegetbetter. You are very welcome here and you will find a listening ear and a shooulder to cry on if you want to share a bit of your story. I am sad to hear that you feel that you are not a Christian any more. Be assured that God never stops loving you, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
I hope the physio happened and went well BES
Prayers for health and strength for you too MHD
