Young children talking about ghosts

I've just been away for easter and my dd (3) was talking about a ghost in the room she and I were staying in. Her mood would change when we were in the room. At first she said she was scared but when I tried to find out why she just said something about a ghost and then "it's nothing mummy".

A couple of days later she mentioned it again- she said it was blue with black eyes and that it moves around. She said she knows it can't hurt her because it has no arms and legs but that she doesn't like it.

My dh says that I should not encourage her to think these things (I don't but also don't say "there's no such thing") but I feel it would be wrong of me to rubbish what is a (possibly) real experience to her.
Anyone experienced anything like this?

That sounds awful. Well, since we got home dd hasn't talked about it at all.

when my eldest son was around 2 he used to say that he saw a white lady standing in his bedroonm and just outside his bedroom door. he wasnt frightened but he was adamant she was there. this continued off an on untill he was about 5.i dont believe in things like that so took no notice untill my 2nd son was coming up to 2 and ran into the living room in a really excited state to tell me a white lady had just come through the front door and to quickly come to see her, he ran out into the hall and pointed up the stairs to in front of his brothers door and said "the white lady was standing there but shes gone now" and wandered off. he wasnt afraid but i was terrified and spent the next hour hiding in the living room till my hubbie came home. coward that i am!!!
