Soaring Music

It’s a beautiful Spring morning. The family are having a lie in and I am looking out at a camellia in full blossom and a loitering pigeon. In the midst of this idyll, the question I’d like answered might seem a little unexpected but I still think it’s a good one.

What music would you offer to those who are struggling, to those who are in pain, whether physical or mental?

What would you offer by way of religious or secular music to allow people to soar if only for a few moments?

My offering is: .

Fly to Paradise by Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir

If I'm in pain 'Rose garden-funeral of sores by Bauhaus ..Ideally live version.. will make me forget pain...

The music either climbs in with pain and makes it an external canvas for you to.ovserve, play with and extinguish, or its a distraction.. i prefer the first.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I've enjoyed listening to them.

I’ve thought of a few more examples of soaring music I’d like to send out into MN cyberspace.

Woman in Chains by Tears for Fears

There’s a real sense of release at the end, so if you are lurking out there, female and feeling trapped, this one’s for you!

Then there's

Gabriel’s Oboe (from the Mission) by Ennio Morricone

Builds up to a satisfying bracing ending. Watch out for Jeremy Corbyn on violin. Wink

And from old religious choral music, what about the walls of sound created by Spem In Alium by Tallis or Miserere mei, Deus by Allegri?

If you are feeling sad and troubled this morning, I hope there might be something in these pieces for you.

And if you’ve got any more suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

I was going to suggest Spem in Alium and the Miserere, but you got there first.

I have more suggestions but will see if I can find YouTube links.

Around the 4:20 point the camera goes up as though it's a soul taking flight or someone managing to rise above their pain and sorrow. You don't have to be religious or pro-royal to appreciate it.
