Ds2 has been invited to the Bar Mitsvah of a good schoolfriend of his - he will be going to the synagogue, and then on to the party in the evening. Can anyone tell me what an appropriate present would be? The family concerned are very wealthy indeed, and while we are not exactly scraping around, I don't want to make our gift seem irrelevant iyswim. I would like to give something that is sensitive and of lasting memory - any ideas? Thanks

a book of some description..,either religious or intellectual IFYSWIM

if there are any Jewish shops near you ,there will be a big range of books that you can choose from

also, something that can be engraved, maybe a silver kiddush cup?

the shop will be able to advise what is appropriate...

if you do not want to buy something with religious connotations, a beautiful pen, watch or other item is also appropriate....

the bar mitzvah is about becoming a man , being welcomed as an adult into the community, to it is worth buying a more 'adult'; gift IFYSWIM, ...

Lulumama, have just checked this thread and seen that my reply to you saying thanks (IYSWIM) on Sunday didn't post! Thanks for your reply anyway. What is a kiddush cup, please?
