Bible reading notes

I'm after a recommendation for bible reading notes. I have a 15 min bus ride in the mornings, so I'd like something that takes approximately that long.

I'm and evangelical, and I'm fairly academic, so I'd like something that engages my brain. (The last time I tried Every Day with Jesus for example, I hated it because it seemed so trite. No offence intended to anyone who loves them - I know lots of people do!) The best ones I've ever found were the Ichthus File by Matthias Press. They're aimed at teenagers, but I used them at university - sadly though, I think it's time to admit that I have actually grown up a bit since then...

Any suggestions?

I do like his books - he's very thoughtful.

I like Tom Wright too.
William Barclay also comes highly recommended by many - I have to admit buying his book on Corinthians, but not opening it yet .

I can recommend Tom Wright's books.
Plus he is a thoroughly nice chap, I felt very privileged when he confirmed me and my dh at Durham Cathedral last year.
