Just beginning TTC and feeling all spiritual but I don't know how to express it. Anybody done any sort of ritual/prayer/religous practice to aid fertility or "welcome" the potential child

would love to hear your experiences

Nettee you might be interested in reading Stories of the Unborn Soul: The Mysteries and delight of pre-birth communication by Elisabeth Hallet. Would do you an Amazon link but have to dash.. sorry.. good luck

If you have a bible, I would recommend Luke chapter 1, verses 26-55, which is about the angel telling Mary she is to conceive Jesus, and her visit to her cousin Elizabeth, also pregnant.

i used a fertility crystal , which i laid on top of my tummy afterwards !! and thought positive baby related thoughts!

Write a journal with your thoughts and prayers and hopes for your baby and motherhood.

Play music to lift you up.

Pray to God as mother. Think about your own conception, and how God was holding your mother during her pg. Then picture your baby's conception, and the baby growing inside you, and then the two of you growing inside God's womb and being kept safe and fed there. (I got this image as a vision during prayer whilst pg -unplanned- with dd1. I'm a Christian btw.)

Good luck!

I did something similar to nearlythree - visualisation that I was a mother with a fertile waiting womb. I watched for spirit lights and signs that a baby was wishing to join our family.

Thank you for your suggestions, - some really lovely ideas which I will investigate. I went outside and thought happy, loving, welcoming thoughts and now I feel different - more committed to the idea I think. More settled. I am also going to a carol service on Sunday which will probably be quite relevant with all the readings about conception and birth.

I do feel potential conception is a really magical time. Almost feel it needs a ceremony but I suppose the official stuff normally happens after the real event - baptism, marriage, funerals.....

I've read studies that say that people with lots of images of mothers and babies in their homes are more likely to become pregnant

This might be a nice thing to surround yourself with ... there are lots of religious images of mothers and children from many different spiritual traditions (perhaps that's a bit of an obvious statement at this time of year!). Find some that speak to you and put them on display!

I found this on the link from Yultide paps - had to share it as it is so lovely:

Did you ever think, Dear Mother as the seeds of me you sowed, as you breathed new life inside of me and slowly watched me grow, in all your dreams about me when you planned me out so well, when you couldn't wait to have me there inside your heart to dwell, did you ever think that maybe I was planning for you, too, and choosing for my very own a mother just like you? A mother who smelled sweet and who had hands so creamy white, a tender, loving creature who would soothe me through the night? Did you ever think in all those days while you were coming due, that as you planned a life for me I sought a life with you? And now as I lay in your arms, I wonder if you knew while you were busy making me I was choosing you!

Little update for those who posted some lovely suggestions for me. I did conceive in the first month of trying and am looking forward to a September baby.

Felt some sort of tingly transfer of energy at the time and then a feeling of being two a few days later - could have been wishful thinking but who knows

Many congratulations - sending you and your little-one-to-be lots of blessings. xxx

roseylea · 11/01/2007 18:18

Congratulations!

May you have a very blessed pg and a happy child!

fransmom · 12/01/2007 21:03

congratulations nettee! x

i have been following this thread for a while but not had anything to post before - i understand about the "tingly transfer feeling of energy" that you mentioned. i haven't quite got the words to describe it properly so that people understand - the only way i can think of to describe it is to say that the feeling was one of pure magic and coming home. hope all goes well x
