Can someone tell me what an Advent Promise is?

My ds 6 has to decorate a holly leaf and write an Advent Promise on it. Is this a promise he has to make to do something or something else?

Not come across this myself (and I thought I was pretty clued-up about Advent customs!) but Advent is a time when we remember God's promise of a Saviour, and that God keeps his promises. So I'm guessing that keeping promises is going to be the theme of the assembly or whatever. It might be that your ds will be asked to write on it what God's Advent promise is (i.e. the birth of Jesus) but I think it more likely he will be asked to write a promise for himself to keep. I think you need to ask your ds' teacher if you are concerned.

Sorry, only just come acriss this thread.

At the Sunday School I lead, we're making a giving tree - each week, each person has to make a promise of something they will do that week, they then write it on a candle template, and hang it on a wooden tree in church.

We did the same sort of thing for lent, and it was really successful.

Here's the ideas list I gave out - everyone is able to choose something else if they want to:

Ideas for things to do:

? Read the Christmas story in the Bible (Luke 2).
? Pray for someone I love.
? Give a gift to someone I can surprise.
? Make a Christmas ornament for my home.
? Pray for a joyful season.
? Make a Christmas card.
? Help to set the table.
? Make up a thank you prayer.
? Do something nice for my teacher.
? Tidy my room.
? Share something with a brother, a sister or a friend.
? Learn a Christmas song.
? Make a Christmas gift.
? Make a Christmas ornament for somebody else.
? Share my toys.
? Do as I am told by my Mum and Dad.
? Visit an elderly neighbour.
? Write a letter to somebody who is lonely.
? Tell my Mum and Dad that I love them.
? Say my prayers every day.
? Help my Mum and Dad without being asked.

Hope this helps.... and hasn't come too late!!
