I think this is lovely, no matter what is happening with me it feels like something I can relate to. I hope anyone else reading this feels it too.

We had it at ds's Naming.

LovesYoungDream · 23/07/2015 22:11

It's lovely. I advised another mner to read Desiderata yesterday. I like 'The Serenity Prayer' too

MinetteFalters · 23/07/2015 22:15

My first post, didn't really expect any reply. Feeling quite emotional at the moment. What a beautiful thing to have at a naming ceremony. I will read The Serenity Prayer. Thank you.

For DD we had a passage from "The Places You'll Go".

I think of "Everyone has the right to wear Sunscreen" as a kind of modern Desiderata.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/07/2015 22:18

I love it. We had it on our dining room wall at home when I was little.

WhatwouldGemmado · 23/07/2015 22:18

I love it too, and if you're feeling emotional at the moment, I hope it goes some way to providing a little comfort.

Passmethecrisps · 23/07/2015 22:20

I am not at all spiritually persuaded but I adore desiderata and also consider sunscreen to be a modern equivalent.

It is beautiful

MinetteFalters · 23/07/2015 22:25

Ah, I did know the Serenity Prayer.

Scientists must be able to prove the link between Desiderata & sunscreen given the 2 posters above plus me who love both. Thanks for warm vibes being passed along the web, it really is comforting!

I read desiderata to 300 teenagers. They listened in silence and gave a big round of applause at the end. Some asked for copies.

Lovely

LovesYoungDream · 23/07/2015 22:44

I hope you feel better soon Minette Flowers . Have a look at the practice of mindfulness. If you like to read, there is a very good book called 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle

JustWantToBeDorisAgain · 23/07/2015 22:47

I had it on my wall all the way through uni, still love it now

PiggyBeekman · 23/07/2015 22:50

I had this on my wall as a teenager, it is beautiful, and I reflect on it often.

MinetteFalters · 23/07/2015 22:55

passmethecrisps salt & vinegar seabrook coming your way, my favourite. Teenagers, as spiritual as the rest of us.

loves Thank you. I love mindfulness but have not read the book so cheers for the recommendation. Flowers will be duly eaten by DD in the morning but much appreciated until then.

Oh! Winner!

It is a beautiful message about living life. Who wouldn't love it

MinetteFalters · 23/07/2015 23:03

Winner must be in response to the crisps. My old boss told me her fondest memory from school was a trip to the seabrook factory. Life affirming poetry it's not, but important non the less!

Haha!

crisps = winner

Desiderata = life affirming poetry

meglet · 23/07/2015 23:10

MinetteFalters · 23/07/2015 23:14

meglet that's lovely. I wonder if always having in mind such beautiful works steels us better for lifes ups & downs. Would love to hear what anyone thinks.
