Was it purely socio-economic reasons? Were all the wimmin baking bread etc? Just reading the Bible and thought popped into my head Smile

I don't think the issue with respect to celibate priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church is that Jesus wasn't married though. After all priests in the Orthodox churches have always been married.

Having said that I don't feel that I hold a. Tied for the RC church in this matter - though nor would I want to say that celibacy can't be a real and valuable vocation.

Because that's what it was like in those days. And maybe in a mixed group travelling round there would have been 'carrying ons' which wouldn't really have been in the spirit of things.
